A stylite, standing on a pillar saint, he spent some 67 years on his pillar during the sixth and seventh centuries. Like most pillar saints, multitudes flocked to him for spiritual advice., and like most pillar saints his advice was usually humane and practical. Stylite saints were living examples of the need for penance in the face of our sins.
