Whether Francis is doing the right thing or not remains to be seen. After seeing how he’s manipulated the Becciu trial, changing the rules several times during the process, and knowing how the Pope has protected Rupnik, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was the means to conduct a sham trial to exonerate the former Jesuit cyclops painter. Rome has already, after all, publicly lamented “irregularities” in the investigation.
