Paxton Acquitted

The evidence of wrongdoing was utterly unconvincing.  This is a misbegotten impeachment that came to an inglorious end.

I’m not familiar with any of the particulars of the complaint. It does seem this was an initiative of a faction within the Republican Party assisted by the Travis County DA’s office, which has a wretched reputation for lawfare and political favoritism. In the end, only two Republican state senators supported the impeachment effort.

Paxton is not a particularly nice guy which probably accounts for this action getting as far as it done. Seems that impeachment is the new way of getting at your enemies when substance is a bit light just to run against them in the next election.

A(nother) defeat for the Bushies. Could be that soon you’ll have no choice but to be a Republican if you’re Republican in Texas.
