The Gadsden Flag

The Gadsden Flag goes back to the very beginnings of the Republic.  Benjamin Franklin was indirectly responsible for the flag.  In his Pennsylvania Gazette on May 9, 1754 he published a cartoon of the 13 colonies as a rattle snake and how desperately unity between the colonies was needed.

In December 1775 he wrote an essay in the Pennsylvania Journal which set forth why the rattlesnake was a good symbol for the American spirit:

“I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids—She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.—She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage.—As if anxious to prevent all pretensions of quarreling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenseless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defense, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:—Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of stepping on her.—Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America?

The Marines, newly created by the Continental Congress, painted their drums yellow with a rattlesnake with thirteen rattles and the motto “Don’t tread on me.”  Colonel Christopher Gadsden, delegate from South Carolina, designed the Gadsden Flag and presented it to Commodore Esek Hopkins in December 1775 to be displayed from the mainmast of his flagship.  He presented another copy of his flag to the legislature of South Carolina:

“Col. Gadsden presented to the Congress an elegant standard, such as is to be used by the commander in chief of the American navy; being a yellow field, with a lively representation of a rattle-snake in the middle in the attitude of going to strike and these words underneath, “Don’t Tread on Me!

Gadsden and his flag had a similar spirit.  At one point during the War he was captured by the British.  Being offered his release if he would swear not to fight against Great Britain, he refused and spent the next 42 weeks in solitary confinement.

Throughout American history the flag has remained in use, many Americans seeing it as a powerful symbol of the American desire for freedom and independence.

June would be a great month to be hosting the Gadsden flag all across this land.

Keep your sons out of my daughters locker rooms and bathrooms!
-from parents who are sick and tired of this crap.

Flag day anyone?

The point is to destroy not only our country (foundation) but also the family as we know it. Colorado was mostly captured by Marxism long ago
Thanks for the lesson.

I almost felt sorry for the teacher. I thought that she was an unwilling bearer of the instructions of her superiors without the fortitude to tell them no. However as the video progresses it seems clear to me that she is fully invested in conforming to whatever “policy” says because it is policy.
She will almost certainly be a mask enforcer and administer medical treatment of varying kinds to your child without notification.

RUN. RUN NOW.

From your speech to this apparatchik, it is obvious you can homeschool this brave and charming boy. Do it while there is still time. You will find a co-op group full of kids who think the Garden Flag is cool and laugh when they are told some supposedly educated person found it racist.

Sounds like lawsuit time to me. The only way these left hugging school functionaries will learn about the first amendment is going to be when they are cited personally in these suppression activities.

Apparently, they are doing better than running. They are fighting and winning. Kid wants to run – for class president!
Nevertheless, this happened in a charter school that claims to work on the Hillsdale model with full knowledge of the schools administration.
Be very wary of education today. Even when it is dressed up with all the right endorsements, the likelihood of lefties is high. Case in point, how many Catholic colleges are Catholic in name only…

Good for the mum not being so easily agreeable. I would have demanded to see this “district policy” in writing. This is seems to me as the teacher drumming up drama because she doesn’t want to get into the classroom and teach. A storm in a tea cup over nothing.

This is making the news. Though the stories I’ve seen report the school is saying it was misrepresented. The problem wasn’t just that badge, but he had others of things like guns. Assuming that is a problem, it should have been brought up by the teacher in the video. Unless I missed something in the watching, I didn’t see anything else about any other problematic badges.

Dave G- of course they would say the kid had guns. Anything to paint the kid with the “bad” flag or any ounce of patriotism as the raging right wing looney. Again- show the black and white evidence. Where is evidence he had guns and where is the district policy in writing.

Ezabelle, sorry, I wasn’t clear. They said he had patches showing guns. Which is why I think if that was the real problem was a patch showing guns, then the teacher should have mentioned it. And unless I missed it, I didn’t hear her do so.

The teacher never mentioned gun patches. She only mentioned the Gadsden flag patch, repeatedly. She said if the boy removed the “Don’t Tread on Me” patch, he could return to the classroom. It sounds like they’re trying to rebrand their position to save face.

Again, employees of the educational apparat are frauds by default.

Agree Dave. Teacher should have mentioned it. She looked out of her depth….

I have a feeling the rest of the video which wasn’t shown got quite heated. The teacher didn’t address the mothers questions. She deflected over again and told the mother she could talk to a higher authority. What a waste of time. Over a kid that did absolutely nothing. When you have kids in schools who are a problem, and yet they pick on a kid with a button up shirt and slicked hair for having a patch. A patch!!
