Saint Augustine was born into rotten times. The Western Empire was tottering, and at his death in 430 his beloved city of Hippo was under siege by the Vandals. Saint Augustine saw beyond his times and blazed a path for all men and women to follow into a Christian future.
In this Vale of Tears we are creatures of a brief moment, like the flame of a flickering candle, but what we do with our time echoes after us, here and in eternity.
