Good News From Hollyweird

You can only produce utter crap for so long before people refuse to pay for it, and that is what is happening in the film industry.

It’s over streaming services.. gone are the days where one would be paid royalties for each broadcast. There are no broadcasts.

I wonder though whether these writers have a point. Too often the actors, producers and directors have made squillions off the back of movies and TV shows written by “writers”. Maybe the writers have had enough. After all, they only write to cater to a market they are told to target.

This is a two-pronged problem — quality of product + distribution revenue. Neither side wants to address the first and arguably more important problem, since it can only be solved by getting rid of them and bringing in people with vision, imagination and talent. Thus they will fight a turf war over distribution, burn Hollywood down and suffocate in its ashes.

It would appear that the unions are, as usual, are one step behind the technology. Probably their interests would be best served by taking a step back, more closely examining the situation and the resources, and commence genuine negotiations based on the new reality. Luddite tactics have never been successful.

No longer is there a need for a concentrated location of writing and production, as film is an obsolete medium – it just doesn’t know it yet. The sun has just started to rise on the new technology; within 10 years anybody with the money and imagination will be able to synthesize full-length feature films with no recognizable actors because the images will all be AI-generated.

The next big legal contest will be NIL-rights for the creators of these AI-generated “stars.”
