If the present makeup of the College of Cardinals is any indication, what succeeds Francis is not going to be any better. If anything, he’ll be worse.
I wish archbishop Salvatore Joseph Cordileone of San Francisco would be elected pope.
Unfortunately, I think Francis has several more years of scorched earth before his time comes.
Maybe in the next conclave, the more traditional African cardinals will be able to block a Francis II.
If anything, he’ll be worse.
We have the Pope we deserve and whose placement is a result of the decay within the Church. If God were not in charge I would have shared your view, however and thankfully, God is in charge. And Amen to that.
If the next Pope is actually interested in ‘Poping’— that is to say conserving, articulating and transmitting the Catholic Faith for this generation and the ones to come— just imagine the cleanup he’ll have in front of him. ‘Augean Stables’ doesn’t begin to describe the task. And he’d need a strong stomach— in this pontificate some truly rotten types have risen to the top, like pond scum.
And that’s if we get a Pope and not a Francis II.
Ezabelle,
Being “in charge” and being “in control” are two different things … God, most certainly, isn’t micro-managing His Church right now.
… And I don’t recall having done anything to deserve this apostate Pope, but if I have, I owe you all my sincere apologies 😀
