So true. Always amazes me how a murderous thug became a poster boy for American youth. Che was/is no hero.
Most people wearing a Che t-shirt are not worth the bullet to zap ttem away.
The youth love the cool beret and woke facial hair. Turning a Socialist figure into a money-making capitalist commodity has been one of the more successful marketing EVER!
Converse, Olivetti, Renault, Smirnoff Vodka, Taco Bell, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Leica, Taco Bell, London Financial times have all used Che Guevara in their marketing.
Maradona and Mike a Tyson have a tattoo of his mug on their bodies. As do other high-profile athletes.
He’s been portrayed in films more than 25 times, in video games, comic books, magazines, music, animation, theatre, operas, high-end fashion, tourist ads, immortalised in monuments around the world, used as an image for republicanism by Irish, and had a kick if his hair auctioned off by a CIA operative for $120k, Global leaders have names their pets “Che”….and sold lots and lots of merchandise over the decades…
So it’s not just the young who believe he is a revolutionary martyr- big business have made a monster and popular culture has benefited from using his image for profit.
Che Guevara, the Marxist, is probably turning in his grave thinking the $$$$ he could have made from trademarking his own face. Oh The irony.
