I would typically defer to ypur judgment, Mr. McClarey, as I am just a bean counter and not an attorney with decades of significant experience. The charges are garbage. I just co sider where the indictment took place…where the hatred for Trump is white-hot and apparently nobody cares about the rule of law. The January 6 defendants have been treated as if charged with high treason.
Oh, I completely agree with the bias PF. If Trump were brought to trial before a Manhattan jury he could be convicted of the crucifixion of Christ. I just think that the charges are so legally weak, that even a biased judge will have no choice but to dismiss. We shall see.

When Trump is willing to pay money he can get very good counsel. His problem is that he likes cheap over quality and that he has a deserved rep for stiffing attorneys on fees.
A biased liberal activist judge will have absolutely no qualms about not dismissing this garbage case. Everything is politics for these evil people. They are not judges interested in the rule of law, just inquisitors for the democrat/communist party.

If they actually ARE able to convict Trump for nothing, why wouldn’t they use the same tricks versus DeSantis? The only reason that Trump is being indicted is that they hate him and because he’s a dangerous political opponent. There is no case here and most people on the left celebrating this indictment couldn’t even tell you what specific charges are being brought against Trump.

Maybe, but in my 41 years at the bar I have found that even biased judges do not like to make their bias obvious when it comes to a matter of law. Case law is case law and the eyes of the entire nation will be on this case.
If DeSantis becomes dangerous as well, then there’s no doubt that they’ll use similar shenanigans against him.
I doubt if DeSantis has been paying off old mistresses. With his tweeting and his endless bloviating Trump makes himself an easy target. Anyone goes after DeSantis they will end up losing a few limbs. DeSantis is a lot smarter and probably tougher than Trump. He will probably decide to wait until 2028 because he knows that Trump is rule or ruin and that the nomination would be worthless with Trump urging his voters to stay home. As a lawyer for 50 years, I doubt if a judge in New York City has the integrity (and guts) to follow the law and dismiss the case against Trump. A jury trial of Trump in Manhattan would be akin to 12 KKK jurors sitting in judgment of a black man accused of raping a white woman 60 years ago (only possibly more assured of a guilty verdict, evidence being irrelevant). Will an appellate court be any better???
It’s my rough impression that New York courts are more professional than courts in other states. By way of example, the state Court of Appeals refused to impose homosexual pseudogamy by judicial fiat. Also, in other states, you see prominent criminal cases on simmer for years on end. (See the Jodi Arias case in Arizona). In New York, superior court criminal cases which go to trial are usually dealt with in about 15 months, if I’m not mistaken. The complaints I have heard from lawyers in New York have been about lay JPs (whose quality I’m told is highly variable and who, when they’re bad, are horrid) and about quondam prosecutors who do not know any civil law.
I will mention I have a thin filament of connection to John Manning Regan Jr, a disaffected attorney who writes the ‘Lawyer Strike’ blog. He maintains the courts he dealt with in Rochester are crooked and awful. I do not buy his thesis and he has his critics among working lawyers in Rochester. He posted about an asinine tweet by a junior grade clergyman / film blogger, a man whose insipid remarks he’s fisked dozens of times before. It’s no revelation that there’s a great many crummy clergy.
I don’t see why it’s relevant whether DeSantis paid off mistresses, since that’s not what this case is about. Sure those are what the charges revolve around on paper but no one, not even the prosecutor, really thinks that this is about making sure that judgment is done for that offense.
I’m sure that DeSantis has violated some obscure law at least once in his life. And if somehow he has not, they can always manufacture an offense. The idea that Trump colluded with Russia to throw the 2016 election was a complete fiction that was absurd from the start, yet they still persecuted him over it for years.
