A deal is being worked out. This was always for show. Becciu knows too much. Francis was never going to let Becciu have the opportunity to spill the beans. And, Becciu doesn’t want to end up like Cardinal Pell.
And, Becciu doesn’t want to end up like Cardinal Pell.
Huh?
The problem is that the Vatican doesn’t have a legal system that passes a due process sniff test.
Even if Becciu were to be convicted, by treaty he’d have to serve his time in an Italian prison. And that only happens if the verdict comports with Italian law.
Even with as screwed up as the Italian system is, the unutterable corruption of this trial process by Bergoglio’s bigfooting ensures that even if Becciu is convicted–and he won’t be–he won’t see the inside of a cell.
Becciu’s a made man.
And I think I finally figured out why the pontiff has lit into the Italian mafia with periodic rhetorical threats of hellfire: he doesn’t like the competition.
Il capo di tutti capi runs the Vatican like any other ‘family’. Becciu is a made guy for all intents and purposes. Unreal.
Becciu has claimed that Francis wants him dead.
