Sermons?

Yes I have, many times over the years from many priests.  Perhaps I have just been lucky.  Tell us in the comboxes your experience.

The photo in that tweet was taken at the south gate of the Texas Capitol in Austin— and just a couple blocks from St. Mary’s cathedral. It was at St. Mary’s that I heard a priest give a no-holds-barred breakdown on the evil of abortion. I’ll never forget the gasps I heard from a few folks— Father wasn’t sugar-coating anything. When he finished, there was a moment of dead silence, and then the congregation burst into prolonged applause. I’ve never seen that happen before.

Afterwards, I wrote Father a letter thanking him for that homily. It was a beauty.

Abortion yes, very few if any on artificial contraception.

(The Church isn’t against artificial birth control because it’s artificial but because every form of artificial birth control is either abortifacient or contraceptive.)

I have heard hardly any sermons mention abortion or contraception, or also marriage. And if so only in passing, quickly mentioning, not part of the overall topic. It’s as if priests are schooled or told not to. I have never heard that simple statement above in parentheses ever explained. Ever.

Artificial birth control or contraception destroys the joy of life, self respect and is futility in motion
Want a good sermon on abortion see Father Frank Pavone.

IMO, the homily should be an elaboration on the Gospel and other readings if you can work in something. References to topical questions are fine if they serve the task of elaborating on the readings. Otherwise, if you have something to say, put a circular in the narthex or in the day’s bulletin.

They are so afraid to offend anyone here, they never mention abortion, hell or even sin in homilies. Just social justice bs. They don’t even pray the Confiteor at Mass. Heaven forbid people be reminded that we are all sinners.

A couple of weeks ago our priest mentioned the Pro-Life March in Washington and how just because Roe was repealed, that the fight wasn’t over.

First anti-contraception/abortion sermon came from a Rosary Triduum Mass a Legion of Christ priest was asked to celebrate. All other anit-contaception sermons were at NFP conferences (where Mass was celebrated, and they usually were).
.
Our pastor has mentioned abortion maybe twice a year? Not as its own thing, but in combination with other topics. A couple of weeks ago, he did ream the parish out for “supporting” Michigan Prop 3–although I think he meant it as a more societal way that any one person in the parish.

Oh, can we just stop using the phrase “artificial contraception” (and “artificial birth control”). I know the Church uses it in some of her documents, but it isn’t the “artificial” part that is the problem. It is the contraception part.

These days (and has always been) there are herbs that can be used as a “natural contraception.” So…if the Church is opposed to “artificial contraception,” is she okay with “natural contraception”? Oh, no. Because She (God) opposes all contraception.
.
(NFP, period continence, abstinence are not contraception…”

(The phrase/acronym… Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) offers less possible confusion and angst than Natural Family Planning (NFP). )

A root-cause-analysis of societal acceptance of abortion, divorce, out or wedlock births, fornication, single parent households, children living in poverty, acceptance of sodomy, acceptance of same sex marriage, and now transgenderism
-all have their beginning in the acceptance of contraception.
The Catholic Church is the ONLY Christian Church that still (in spite of Pope Francis the Heretic) stands against the contraception, thus proving IT is the Pillar of Fire and Truth.

Yet, we never or hardly ever HEAR ANYTHING from the pulpit!

It’s a demonic conspiracy. FAM is not that difficult. While it’s not possible to predict when a woman is fertile (healthy men are always fertile), it is possible day to day to KNOW with 99% assurance if a woman is fertile or not. Since abstinence is 100% effective, the overall effectiveness is 99%. Contraception is an act against the beginning, marriage and humanity under God.
The End does Not Justify the Means.

Nope. Never heard a sermon re abortion. Zip/Nil. Never heard a sermon re contraception. Zip/Nil. The near occasion of Sin or Sin itlself…not in quite awhile. Kind of a joke, really.

Also:
When you have priests that are supposedly celibate think that periodic abstinence for married couples is impossible, and bishops that ignore or gloss over Church Teachings on sexual morality, and more demons on a seminary wall than anywhere else in town. You have a recipe for-

Archdiocese of Washington here. Regular occurrence. Also, most weeks we have it in the prayers of the faithful, something along the lines of “For a commitment to the respect for and protection of life from the moment of conception to natural death, let us pray to the Lord…”.

Very blessed to attend St. Peter’s Church and work at the St. Paul VI Institute in the Archdiocese of Omaha. Also a regular occurrence, but we have some good priests here…

I hope that I dont butcher our Pastors edifying homily. He eloquently spoke of a Cesar who watched Rome self disintegrate. It was getting to the point of degeneration, not enough male children being born to protect the Empire. Abortion, Homosexuality, Pedophilia was finally catching up the “Nobel” Roman Empire. The Gospel passage that weekend was entwined with this historical fact that our society today has done everything in its power to imitate.

Fearless and brilliant our Fr.Libby, but this is not pastor worship. It’s the plain and simple Truth.

Perpetual Eurchrist adoration, TLM, Legion of Mary, Holy League just to name a few our our jewels in our parish is fruit from Our Lord in the Adoration chapel and his close friend, our priest.

Fr James Altman from Lacrosse Wisconsin. He spoke about the evil of abortion and heretic political types. He was cancelled during the scamdemic. The best part of 2020 was missing lame homilies from the home parish. The online voices were so much better.

Clinton – Decades ago, I had a similar experience. I don’t know what our gentle priest had said that had made it into the local papers or caused a dustup among local Christian pastors a few days before, but he gave a clear homily on the subject of abortion, and why it had to be talked about. There were no gasps from the parishioners – the 80’s were a more orthodox time – and he got a full round of applause at the end of the homily.

I first knew that there was something wrong with my former pastor when he gave a homily AGAINST the pro-life movement one Sunday morning. I was not terribly surprised when he later ran off and civilly married another local priest.
