It was precisely that, in the minds of many, especially the Protestants who were actually invited to help design the Novus Ordo. Pro tip: when you invite schismatics to come in and help you “reform” the Church that they already tossed to the curb centuries ago, the result isn’t going to look like the Church they left, but rather the one they made up to replace it. Mission accomplished.
It gave a lot of silly liberal nuns more inanities to obsess about. They were starting to get bored.
