Spoke to my son who is in the Guard over Christmas on this. He said there a multiple reasons why people have left or are not reenlisting. This is actually a minor one. More to it, it’s lack of training (for most) that is useful in civilian life and the whole forced vax thing.

Nobody is going to get “offended” they are making it up to, once again, add confusion and grab attention. They. Are. That. Bored.
And even if someone was “accidentally” addressed as a sir when they prefer to be addressed as an “it” or “thing” then they are welcome to go ahead and point that out at the time.
Sir and Ma’am are such respectful ways to address someone particularly when they are not that familiar to you. I love how it’s used regardless of age or status. It’s a great part of American culture and speak. They missed the point of the usage of those words, is has nothing to do with “gender” but more about respect when addressing someone.
I guess in the case of the marines, when you have Superiors who don’t know if they are Arthur or Martha then you’re stuffed regardless of what you address them. China is laughing.
