Kari Lake Trial Done: Waiting for Decision-Update: Decision Handed Down

On the whole, I think Kari Lake made a very strong case.  However, the burden is on her under Arizona law and I can easily see the Judge finding that although there were mistakes in the way Maricopa County conducted the election the evidence has been insufficient to warrant the radical judicial remedy of ordering a new vote.  We shall see.

Update:  As I feared would occur, the court has ruled that Kari Lake failed to meet her burden of proof in the election challenge.  Go here to read the decision.

I think the evidence presented was fairly compelling that these were not “mistakes,” but intentional misdeeds.

Where I think Lake is going to fall short is in proving that they were done with the intent of shifting the election for Hobbs. It isn’t required under the relevant laws–and it was blatantly obvious, even so–but there wasn’t a smoking-gun level confession, and without that, I doubt the judge will be brave enough to actually follow the law and rule in Lake’s favor.

Perhaps the fact that candidate Hobbs oversaw this contested election will factor into the judge’s deliberations.

The election process, like Caesar’s wife, must be above suspicion. This particular election, especially in Maricopa county, was a dumpster fire that undermines the public confidence in the process itself.

That Lake brought a case that has gotten this far is a victory of sorts. If only Trump had been this smart instead of relive 2020 two years later.

It seem as some believe facts matter. With the Republican Party in Arizona still dominated by the McCain machine and.the remainder of the judiciary under Democrat control, I would be shocked if any relief for Lake is granted. I hope I am shocked.
