Correia was responding to the above idiotic tweet. It all sounds so familiar to me of the talk that was common in both North and South in the 1850s: our opponents are cowards and won’t fight. If they do we will win in a week!
Then our bloodiest war came. We are still unsure how many men died in it. For a century it was thought that the butcher’s bill was 640K . Lately the total has been upped to 750k in many estimates. You could tell me a million and I wouldn’t blink an eye. The conflict was so vast, record keeping was so poor, and so many skirmishes and minor battles were all but forgotten shortly after they were fought, all but by the families of the men killed and wounded.
There has been little attempt to count the wounded, many of them maimed for life, but they may have numbered well over a million. Legless and/or armless veterans, attempting to eke out a scant existence selling trinkets, was a common sight to see on the streets in both North and South for decades after the War. Widows in black were also common, still in mourning for their soldiers who were never coming back.
The thing often forgotten is that we survived that conflict as a united nation by the skin of our teeth. We could so easily still be refighting that War in endless new conflicts.
A Civil War II would be many times worse, with our intermingled red and blue areas ensuring a true civil war, with massacres and counter massacres being a common feature. In one school of thought about the first Civil War, the generation most culpable of bringing it about is referred to as The Blundering Generation. God help us as to what succeeding generations would say about the men and women who let Civil War II occur.
I pray to God it does not come, but if it should I hope the brave key board warriors who helped bring it about make up the bases of the mass graves that would result.

Don, This time around there’s no substantial geographic separation. Trump got 32% of the “official” vote in Massachusetts in 2016 and 2020. 47% and 45% respectively in NH. Where I live it’s called “a deep blue area” or crazy liberal area, only it’s not -liberals hold only a majority yes, but in many cases a slim majority. Mostly in cities, not reproducing (except in public schools), and one side has all the weapons. Want to win a “civil war”, easy -take over public school K-12.
“Want to win a “civil war”, easy -take over public school K-12”
So true.
The British know all about civil wars. They had a number of them in the 16th to 18th centuries; Cromwell-full on war, William and Mary-Coup, Culloden- Massacre. Took them a while to learn that there is no such thing as a complete lasting victory in most civil wars.
Our Neighbor to the South has had its own experience with civil wars. Fortunately, and as a result, it is, today, a peaceful, prosperous, corruption-free nation of happy, fulfilled citizens.
Fearless Leader Joe and his henchmen have already war gamed a CWII. Remember his comments about “we have F 16s” to use against American citizens?
If they have gamed it, they’re doing a p-poor job of prepping for it. Draining the strategic oil reserve and draining our advanced munitions stockpile by sending it to Ukraine are not the actions of a cabal ready to pull the trigger.
They are awful people who hate us to the center of the cinders where their Baal-and-Mammon-consumed hearts used to be. But let’s not goad ourselves into pulling the trigger by imagining they’re about to do the same.
As I said in the same thread:
“Dude needs to read a book about the Spanish CW. Then crank it up several orders of magnitude, tossing in the panoply of NBCs and the rending firepower of the 21st Century. Then throw in Rwanda-style neighbor butchery.
Hoping for it is beyond insane. Moral degeneracy x1000000.”
