California is, in effect, making child molestation and rape a low level felony with revolving door prison sentences. This is of course with full knowledge that pedophiles have a sky high rate of recidivism.

Agree TCT and Philip- people will rightfully take justice into their own hands. Not sure if it’s the same in the US prisons but paedophiles and child molesters in Australian prisons are referred to as “rock spiders” and constitute the lowest rung of inmates in the prison system. They get sorted out by the other inmates who loath the scum.

One of the recent re-runs of Law and Order SVU on one of the cable channels featured a very sympathetic episode of a pedophile which assigned the blame to the victim. But then we have always known that the industry thrives on behavioral license.

The department also refused to hand over a current copy of the database – which should be public under Megan’s Law – to DailyMail.com.

Among the concerns is that federal and state governments have become so brazen about withholding information from the citizenry. I don’t find this surprising since Americans seem, in general, OK with it. I spent 23 years in government, leaving in 2019, and watched secret databases, which cannot be FOIAed, become commonplace. Our government collects data, makes it unavailable, uses it for purposes which cannot be challenged and are often invisible, and then openly says to the media and citizens “we won’t give you that.” The underlying issues here are deeply concerning because 1) justice is thwarted, 2) we are talking about children who are among our most vulnerable citizens, and 3) it is REALLY bad policy to make those on the edge of acting think that what they do won’t lead to arrest and that, if it does, there are few consequences. Add to that that California is refusing to even share the data, especially that which is required under federal law, and we have a mind-bogglingly awful problem here.
