Poor Russia

Always under threat from mighty Poland.  There are endless good reasons why the neighbors of Russia tend to wary of it.

No, Russia wants to absorb Poland. It is true that huge number of Ukrainian families have been given assylum in Poland. Putin appears to be dangerously paranoid.

There’s a strand of opinion among Russian nationalists which sees eastern Ukrainians as Russian and west Ukrainians as degenerate Poles (denying there is such a thing as a Ukrainian). This bit of projection would appear to be inspired by that.

There’s every reason to believe Putin suffers from essential tremor if not Parkinson’s. Dementia is a common feature of Parkinson’s.

What’s amusing about this whole discussion is that you have characters like John Mearsheimer filing their lawyer’s briefs on Putin’s behalf and then he or one of his minions lets slip a little prize which undermines one of their arguments.

Back in the 1300s to 1500s there was a common Lithuanian, Polish, Ukrainian state that absorbed what is present day Belarus. This article in Encyclopedia Britannica describes that.

But that was a half millennium ago. Today’s circumstance is one purely of Russian aggression.

Putin is still PO about the Polish victory on the Vistula in 1920. He fails to understand that a country that has struggled for its existence for centuries has a certain amount of “True Grit” and adversaries that forget this do so at their peril. He will have long met his judgement and Poland will still be there.
