Why the constant obsession with George Wallace? Wallace was wrong in his early political career, admitted he was wrong, and apologized for his racism. Based upon voting, his apologies were apparently accepted by most black Alabamians. Biden should be so humble, but continues his racist rants.

He is a symbol of using race hatred for political advantage. Early in his career he had a reputation of going out of his way to be fair to the blacks that came in front of him as a judge. He became a red hot segregationist when that advanced his political fortunes. When he needed black votes to win elections in Alabama he stopped being a segregationist. No principles involved, merely pure political opportunism.

Have you reviewed his treatment of his 1st wife? She’s diagnosed with uterine cancer in 1962, at the age of 36. In accordance with the usual practice at the time, her doctors tell her nothing. They tell her husband and expect him to impart information to her at his discretion. (One improvement in medical care in the last 60 years is that this practice has disappeared). What he elects to do is tell her nothing. Members of the governor’s staff know Lurleen Wallace has a cancerous tumor inside her, she does not. Three years later the information is inadvertantly leaked to her (IIRC, she found some paperwork on a desk). Only then did she begin cancer treatments. He buffaloes her into running for governor the following year as a decoy candidate and she’s elected. However, she’s quite ill during her time in office. As she’s slowly expiring, Wallace has his staff issue happy talk statements about her medical condition, which are revealed to be lies when she dies. (At this point, the Lt. Governor was sworn in and tells Wallace to get lost).
Hillary Clinton is so vicious and pathological it’s difficult to offer her any sympathy. Lady Bird Johnson was in important respects her husband’s accomplice. Jacqueline Kennedy was raised to be a gold digger and butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth. By all accounts, Lurleen Wallace was a housewife whose husband was in the politics business, and what he did was neglect her and use her.

I assume your account of his treatment of Lurleen Wallace is correct. Anyone treating another human being in such a way could only be described as despicable and disgusting. That is a sufficient reason to attack his character, more so than judgment about his subjective motives in apologizing for his racism expressed in his earlier political career. Of course, if Wallace was making an apology with ulterior or insincere motives, he deserves no consideration. I don’t know his motives, only what he did. The treatment of Lurleen , from my memory a very nice lady (not that it would excuse him were she not) speaks for itself.
Whenever I hear Biden drone on about white supremacists, I say, “Yeah, Joe, it takes one to know one, doesn’t it?”
