Something for the weekend. Jolene (1973) by Dolly Parton.   My secretary and office manager for thirty years, until she passed away far too young seven years ago, was a big Dolly Parton fan. I did not share her enthusiasm but as a result I was exposed to Parton’s music. My favorite of her songs is Jolene which has an interesting back story which Parton relates in the above video.

A very nice cover by The Petersens:
I’ve always liked the melody of Jolene. The Petersons cover has a real Blue Grass feel. Plenty of heart ache out there because of predatory women and foolish men, esp. those in male menopause.
I’ve never been a fan of coed ships in the US Navy….. I would guess that the majority of sailors in the crew are single. For the married of both sexes long deployments and close friendships with shipmates can be a problem.. This has nothing to do with women’s ability to be high performers in most of the navy’s ratings and designators. When we married we were both active duty and my husband said to me that we both had to be very careful about our behavior when he was deployed so as not to cause gossip. Maybe it is different now with cell phones so a couple doesn’t have to rely on snail mail and MARS.
Al’s internet isn’t helpful either. Pornography is the 3rd person in a marriage.
A life lesson I learned early on [a great many never learn it] is you need to discern what you need and want.
Akshally, it ain’t Jolene’s fault.
He ain’t worth it.
That wife doesn’t need the piece of garbage.
Good song, tho.
Which reminds me. This is a veil[?] of tears. My youngest brother [RIP] whenever he heard some guy was getting married would intone in a nearly tearful voice, “Why should he be happy?” Words of wisdom.
Parton is a genuine talent. Not just a fine singer, she is a prolific songwriter — both music and lyrics.
Great song and performances.
I always though the idea of Dolly Parton worrying about some other woman stealing her man a little unlikely.
