Not pedophilia… pederasty.
I still kick myself from not foreseeing It. Simple equation:
1. Seminaries teaching that Chasity (incl NFP) was impossible…
2. Homosexuals attracted to men and boys…
3. There are more demons on a seminary wall been anywhere else in town..
I.e. Pederasty.
There was quite a bit of paedophilia as well. IIRC, north of 1/3 of the complaints concerned youths under the age of 14. But, yes, pederasty was the main problem. (You point that out in fora and there’s nearly always a jackass contingent who accuse you of being an “apologist”).
Not sure how you would “fight” that. His predecessors struggled. One problem is the screening process for becoming a priest. It’s soft because there is a shortage in the west. Another problem is many don’t continue their studies in the seminary because of what they witness…don’t know the stats.
