Polls can be designed to get any results those who pay for the poll wish to see. This is especially true with abortion where the media has been saying for five decades that pro-lifers are a tiny minority and the vast pro-abortion majority was about to consign them to the dustbin of history.
So polls are wonderful when they agree with you and useless when they don’t.
Tell me, how many years should a woman spend in prison for having a miscarriage when she had alcohol in her system? What should be the punishment for traveling while pregnant?

No clue why your brain manufactured the notion that people are advocating women face criminal penalties for traveling while pregnant (unless this was something you’ve cribbed from Margaret Atwood).
Statutes proscribing assault and homicide commonly distinguish between things done knowingly and intentionally, things done recklessly, and things done with criminal negligence. This is controlled vocabulary and there is a body of case law associated with these terms.
The only people demanding women be jailed for miscarriages– and demanding more time than murderers do right now– are the activists who desperately want to force the nation to have at-will infanticide.
What polls have to say about moral issues is irrelevant. It’s likely that in Germany of the 1930’s Hitler and the Nazis would have got over 50% for their totalitarian policies, including killing Jews, gypsies, and the defective.
….killing Jews, gypsies, and the defective ……and Catholics.

Crap polls are crap polls whatever the results.

Zero and traveling while pregnant tends to be its own punishment as my Bride and I experienced when she was pregnant with our twins thirty years ago.
Surveys only survey what surveys’ survey…
(Tests only test what tests’ test…. )
Don,
Just like post-modern everything, e.g., so-called climate science, polls are employed to advance the nightmare agenda.
Polls can be structured to obtain desired outcomes.
Questions can be slanted. Samples can be structured every which way from next Friday. For instance, many MAI [made-as-instructed] polls heavily weight Democrat/liberal and underweight Republican/conservative respondents.
Like the 2020 elections, it’s not who votes that counts, it’s who counts the poll responses.
This blog has a new attraction. ‘Accepted pronoun’ has the best asset: brevity. It’s fun to observe the stupid wax stupid.
including killing Jews, gypsies, and the defective.
Granular Third Reich history is not my hobby, but if I’m not mistaken, the initial forays into killing the ‘defective’ were very much on the QT because the government was not persuaded the public would accept it. NB, the Nazi Party never won a majority of the German electorate in a fair contest and it required several hammer blows to the standing of the German establishment before the electorate began to break toward the totalitarian parties.
Yes Bob Kurland!
I am reminded in an obverse way of Abraham wondering about God’s punishment of sinners – if even only a few were righteous.
From my folks” Even if everybody is doing something wrong or thinks wrong is right,…Wrong is still wrong”
We know there are lots of reasons for poorly executed polls. And just as many bad reasons for individuals to respond so thoughtlessly.
If Faith and Reason are Water and Light, we are in a very dark desert. so much incoherence in popular thinking,
Karen, I have no problem with disagreements online, but could you acknowledge that no one here is calling for prosecuting miscarriages? It’d be a demonstration of good faith.
There’s a big difference between “is abortion morally right” and “do you support abortion”. Even those who support abortion don’t all think it is a “morally right” choice but rather a “necessary choice”. So you can’t determine that people support it based on moral grounds.
Polls also depend on those which are being surveyed to tell the truth. Polls also depend on those being surveyed having set views- people’s views can change within a short space of time. As in hourly or daily. Especially views of those who don’t scrutinise issues and would happily go with what the media tell them to think. There are many people out there like this.
Btw, I always wondered gets surveyed. I’ve can’t remember the last time I had to answer polling questions…or heard anyone complain about pesky pollsters bugging them…
Ezabelle, I can tell you that if a national poll came out in the past week with a very conservative Republican saying the country is headed in the right direction, it was because I accidentally hit the wrong button on my phone.
IIRC I’ve been polled by Rasmussen and Monmouth as well as having been a “Nielsen family”. I think half of it is that I usually pick up my phone rather than letting it go to voice mail.
Pinky- that’s interesting. I get marketing calls and sometimes even scam calls. But no polls. Even around election times. Yet I see Poll statistics on the news on approval ratings and preferred candidates. I always wonder- who are they polling?
I always tell this story, but.
@Ezabelle, for a while, they polled me.
In late winter of 2013, I got a Pew poll which was pretty intrusive but I went along… until the guy made it clear that my husband being on orders meant that I would be recorded as “separated or divorced.”
I declined to continue, have continued to decline, and have filed several FCC complaints when various polling groups continued to call me anyways.
They now get their input from, mostly, online surveys of curated populations.
@Foxfier- so we wasn’t even recording your answers accurately. Another reason polling is skewed.
