Dobbs decision issued. Six to Three. Roe is gone. Much more to follow.
Go here to read the decision.
Personal note: I always believed that Roe would end up in the dustbin of history, but I wasn’t sure that I would live to see that day. I praise God for his crowning mercy to me to let me see Roe become one with Nineveh and Tyre.
This is the triumph of the pro-life movement that waged an uphill struggle for the past 49 years against almost all the centers of power in this country. President Trump kept his word that he would nominate only Justices who he thought would overturn Roe, and his pledge has been kept. I did not support Trump in 2016 until he made his pro-life pledge. A man of his word.
There is much work to do, but this is a great victory for the unborn and joy should be the order of the day for all pro-lifers.
Trump in 2016:
Roe will get overturned "automatically in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court. I will say this. It will go back to the states, and the states will then make a determination."
And we reap the benefits today. pic.twitter.com/MNYXLeDCVw

Oh my god just heard this on the radio oh thank God….
Thanks to God… and Trump.
A prayer to St. Thomas More that the Justices and their families are protected.
There is a tremendous amount of work to be done. I know; more than 30 years ago, I once voted to fund medicaid abortions in my state because abortion was cheaper than welfare.
.
https://www.catholicworldreport.com/2022/06/08/end-roe-and-then-fight-the-primary-cause-of-abortion/
It’s a great battle that has been won, but the war will always continue and the toll so far is over sixty million innocent lives. Rejoice, but saddle up….
Let’s see if the Justice department acts to protect Catholic Churches, pregnancy centers, and the home of Catholic justices.
Let’s pray for the rioters to be converted or jailed.
Bob-
the DHS already contacted Catholic groups to warn them to prepare for attacks, that came out yesterday.
Personal note: I always believed that Roe would end up in the dustbin of history, but I wasn’t sure that I would live to see that day.
Yes, this, exactly.
At almost half a century old, I didn’t expect it to happen… not without an actual second civil war.
Thank you, God, for a real Catholic to stand against the fake Catholics that have been elected, and hold witness, and oh my gosh I am utterly breaking down this is incredible.
Foxfier, thanks for the comment. But warning is only a minor step in protection.
… And on the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus 😀
Yay!
Amen to all the thanksgiving prayers, and joining in asking St. Thomas More to intercede for the Justices and their families. I note that while the DHS “warned” Catholics, “devout Catholic” Biden gave millions of Federal dollars to abortion clinics for their “protection.” No money for us, though. And crickets from the DOJ about protecting the Justices. Garland and his staff are beneath contempt.
Amen! Short term could be a rough few weeks of riots and attacks, but I’m a long term optimist. The world may look back one day in horror on abortion as we do today on slavery…. like in a hundred years or so.
Our local police sent out a warning to those that pray at our local killing center (PP). My church was vandalized last month and now our men have to stand watch. Yet my state is a ‘sanctuary’ state that has enshrined abortion. The overturning of Roe just means more business for our killing centers. We already see out of state plates every week.
I hope you’re right Ben. While I’m happy to see this decision my joy is dampened by the knowledge that in Illinois, nothing will change for the foreseeable future and if anything the slaughter will only get worse. Wish I could move to a pro life state but don’t see any way I can.
Interesting that this comes the day after the affirmation of personal gun rights. Might inspire authorities to remember their obligations to duty and the people lest their positions be taken by the people.
The defense of our abortion laws in Michigan must prevail against Gretchen and hoodlums.
Thanks Sacred Heart for this VICTORY.
Yes. Thanks be to God! I too was unsure if I would live to see this day.

Great links, Foxfier, thanks.
Well done! Praying for you all.
Theyr’e all from Hoyt’s “The Registered Fool” Bob, but I knew folks here would be interested.
My brain is still not braining.
I can’t believe this is real…..
Thanks for the links Foxfier. In red state, the rioters will be punished by state law enforcement. In blue states?
As much as we may not want to admit it, but the Bushes deserve credit as well. Thomas and Alito are two best justices on the Court and it was their leadership that made this possible.
An offense to God and man, to nature and reason, has been corrected. Today’s a lot better than yesterday. Not perfect, but a lot better.
Let’s not forget Mitch McConnell, who remained steadfast in making sure Scalia’s seat remained vacant through the 2016 election, and who steamrolled the Democrats to get Trump’s nominations through.
As much as I despise McConnell, I have to admit you do have a point, Paul.
Now, sixty million souls demand reparations.
This (the one on contraception) is one I’d like to see.

As I recall, certain “homeschooling rights” rest on Griswold. I’d be interested to see what both the HSLDA and USCCB say about that case.
and joining in asking St. Thomas More to intercede for the Justices and their families.
And St. Michael while we are at it.

If these other decisions follow Dobbs, we will get a patchwork of systems. But what that means practically is that the decision will be more local, which means national lobbies that usually favor the left will have a harder time. They will probably just focus on big state strongholds like CA and NY, and easy pickings like Oregon or Mass. With the continued failure of the public schools, they may be SOL. No more using the SCOTUS to cramdown their unpopular opinions.

Praise God. And pass the ammunition.
I just love this Spanish word: Todopoderoso-and He is. We knew He would always and will always have HIS will be done. 63,000,000 US citizens in heaven are celebrating. And some billions from around the world. Guy, Texas
Let’s not forget Mitch McConnell, who remained steadfast in making sure Scalia’s seat remained vacant through the 2016 election, and who steamrolled the Democrats to get Trump’s nominations through.
Quite right Paul. Many other Republican Senators thought he was crazy because they knew that Trump could not beat Clinton, but McConnell held firm and it paid off big.
Thomas and Alito are two best justices on the Court and it was their leadership that made this possible.
True Greg. The record of the Bushes was very mixed on Supreme Court appointments but those two are superb.
“Non nobis Domine non nobis sed Nomini Tuo Da gloriam.
Oh, look. Stevie Greydanus is being a pedant today. I don’t remember him subjecting Black Lives Matter to this level of scrutiny. I’d call him a really stupid snake, but no snake deserves to be compared to the likes of him.

SDG is just Shea from five years ago.
He could stop his descent at any time, but he won’t, for the same reasons that Shea didn’t.
Laus Deo Virginique Matri!
And congratulations to all Americans.
Well, given the cowardice shown by all three of Trump’s nominees with regard to the clear violation of the constitution shown by states like Pennsylvania et al changing election law without consent of their legislatures his record is “very mixed” as well.
I’m also sure Jimmy Seals is resting more peacefully after today.
Jimmy Seals was a king. It’s better to be a pro-life Bahá’í than it is to be a pro-abortion Christian.
How fitting, the passages at Mass today, and the death of Roe. Every subsequent Feast of The Sacred Heart we can thank God for ending the legalization of abortion on demand in the land of the free and home of the brave.

Lectionary: 587
Reading I
Is 49:1-6
Hear me, O coastlands,
listen, O distant peoples.
The LORD called me from birth,
from my mother’s womb he gave me my name.
He made of me a sharp-edged sword
and concealed me in the shadow of his arm.
He made me a polished arrow,
in his quiver he hid me.
You are my servant, he said to me,
Israel, through whom I show my glory.
Though I thought I had toiled in vain,
and for nothing, uselessly, spent my strength,
yet my reward is with the LORD,
my recompense is with my God.
For now the LORD has spoken
who formed me as his servant from the womb,
that Jacob may be brought back to him
and Israel gathered to him;
and I am made glorious in the sight of the LORD,
and my God is now my strength!
It is too little, he says, for you to be my servant,
to raise up the tribes of Jacob,
and restore the survivors of Israel;
I will make you a light to the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.
Responsorial Psalm
139:1b-3, 13-14ab, 14c-15
R. (14) I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.
O LORD, you have probed me, you know me:
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.
R. I praise you for I am wonderfully made.
Truly you have formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother’s womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works.
R. I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.
My soul also you knew full well;
nor was my frame unknown to you
When I was made in secret,
when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.
R. I praise you, for I am wonderfully made.
Reading II
Acts 13:22-26
In those days, Paul said:
“God raised up David as king;
of him God testified,
I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;
he will carry out my every wish.
From this man’s descendants God, according to his promise,
has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.
John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance
to all the people of Israel;
and as John was completing his course, he would say,
‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he.
Behold, one is coming after me;
I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.’
“My brothers, sons of the family of Abraham,
and those others among you who are God-fearing,
to us this word of salvation has been sent.”
Alleluia
See Lk 1:76
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
You, child, will be called prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
Lk 1:57-66, 80
When the time arrived for Elizabeth to have her child
she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard
that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her,
and they rejoiced with her.
When they came on the eighth day to circumcise the child,
they were going to call him Zechariah after his father,
but his mother said in reply,
“No. He will be called John.”
But they answered her,
“There is no one among your relatives who has this name.”
So they made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called.
He asked for a tablet and wrote, “John is his name,”
and all were amazed.
Immediately his mouth was opened, his tongue freed,
and he spoke blessing God.
Then fear came upon all their neighbors,
and all these matters were discussed
throughout the hill country of Judea.
All who heard these things took them to heart, saying,
“What, then, will this child be?”
For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.
The child grew and became strong in spirit,
and he was in the desert until the day
of his manifestation to Israel.
