Mayra Flores has flipped a Democrat held House seat Republican in Texas in a Special Election. She and her family came to this country from Mexico when she was six years old as migrant workers. She is an across the board conservative and the wife of a Border control agent. I would like to thank the Democrats for their strenuous efforts over the years to increase the number of Hispanics in this country, a voting bloc that is moving increasingly to the Republican party. History abounds in such ironies.
That’s a great story. All power to her- her intentions for her country must be genuine if she is a thorough conservative.
I always wondered why Mexicans (who are predominantly Christian Catholic), have not been able to immigrate and assimilate more smoothly into the US. I understand if the immigrant was of another religion ie. Islam (an issue we struggle with in Australia and so do other western nations). Because it creates a large cultural divide and it has caused social and economic problems.
However, I think I would take Mexican immigrants (Christian immigrants) over non-Christian immigrants to western nations in a heartbeat. Anyway, just making an IMHO out loud.
