Steven Greydanus Morphing Into Mark Shea

Four Comments:

1.  When you are stealing the language of God to bash your political opponents, chances are that you are heaping a judgment on your own head.

2.  Over the top hatred is never a good look.

3.  What legislation does Deacon Greydanus propose that would have stopped the shooter?  If he is in favor of confiscation of the 300 million guns in this nation, let him say so plainly and volunteer going door to door to take weapons away from citizens.

4.  If we ever have a repeat of the Civil War it will be partially because of this type of raw hatred masquerading as virtue signaling.

To guess at question 3, it seems the usual approach after these tragedies is to propose specific legislation against something the shooter did. 18 year old used an AR-15? Must be 21 to buy an AR-15!
It’s like putting a tackling dummy in the middle of a football field saying “he ran through this spot, if this little barrier had been here, he couldn’t have made it to the end zone.”
Of course the goal is to put a new dummy on the next guy’s path until the field is full.
What I can’t always tell is: who is deliberately part of that march toward gun confiscation and who is a useful idiot?

Beta boy Greydanus will go door to door snatching guns from the cold dead hands holding those guns right after he gets back from liberating the Ukraine. As he now considers himself his own god, if not the one and only god (just like all libs), he should be just fine. Well, we’re waiting beta boy. Yeah, I thought so.

If he is for confiscation of guns, then the border patrol agent who was getting his hair cut who borrowed the barber’s shotgun, would not have been able to do that.
There’s a big assumption that the kid would not be able to purchase a gun. Well, when they are successful in keeping guns out of criminals hands in Chicago, I’ll get on board.
But dang. I like(Ed) Steve.

Amazing that the painfully obvious shortcomings of the local police in not going in for almost an hour and the school in not keeping doors secure has morphed into the cause redux of the gun controllers. The causes of these failures have been known since the school shootings going back a decade but have only been fitfully addressed. I would also note that many who jump on the piety wagon are the same ones supporting “reform” in the criminal justice systems that seems to only leave more victims in its wake.

Did the Deacon do the same with our rosary-brandishing oligarchs who haven’t seen an abortion they wouldn’t endorse?

If not, why not?

I love that the Catholics who are all about banning guns and who accuse pro-lifers of being hypocrities if they don’t want to ban guns…don’t want to ban abortion.

You might think he was catching up to Shea, but Mark keeps pulling out ahead.

Catholic World Report recently published an article by Greydanus “Buffalo, racism, and the Church” that was standard issue left-wing narrative. It prompted a large number of comments, including mine. The part of my response that can be applied to the subject of this article goes as follows:

It’s interesting that when a subject like racism is brought up the gloves are off, and “Who am I to judge?” gets kicked to the curb. The people pushing systemic racism suddenly become the infallible readers of the hearts and minds of others, and pitiless judgment is mandatory. The Salem witchcraft trials could hardly do better. Race charges becomes the new “When did you quit beating your wife?” question.

Identity politics makes it possible for self-anointed gatekeepers to engage in what amounts to extortion/blackmail shakedown operations. A protection racket where companies and other organizations buy peace by caving into the demands of the woke identity gatekeepers. We all know how ruthless the cancel culture is. In short, a Grievance-Industrial Complex.

I think that the Catholic Social Teaching advocates have spent too much time worshiping the god of the all-powerful administrative state. The one ring of power as it were. People like Shea and Greydanus are increasingly looking rather like the Ringwraiths and Gollum, under the spell of the precious.

Something happened to the formatting of my comment. The sentence about the Grievance-Industrial Complex was the end of my CWR comment excerpt. The last paragraph of my comment is in response to this article.

Greydanus has many tweets calling out the local cops for standing by as the shooting went on. He also has some tweets pointing out that the shooters previous run ins with the law shouldn’t have let me fall through the cracks. There are also a lot of tweets with the general theme of “cops aren’t doing their jobs and it would be foolish to expect them to start now.”

And yet his preferred solution is all more regulation, to be enforced by the same cops who he has condemned as incompetent. (That’s without even getting into how none of the regulation that he advocates for would have changed a thing at Uvalde.)

The whole point is fixing blame on social segments he does not like. Has nothing to do with actually repairing any problem. Recall David Horowitz remark “The issue is never the issue”.

Exactly, Art Deco.

In fact, let me say here what I would to Steven or Mark since they are so ban happy:

Ok, let’s pretend I’m a genie. snap You got your wish and now all guns within America’s have vanished. Now then going forward…

What are you going to do about people making and constructing their own guns? Send the cops after them? Oh, you defunded them, guess we’ll have to hope the social workers can do it.

If we do manage to punish those who would bring guns back into America, what are you going to do if too many of them are minorities? Are you that anxious to throw more black and brown people into jail?

Cartels in Mexico will probably leap at the chance to bring armories into America now, do you have a plan for that? Should we construct a border wall to stop them? Have a restrictive, investigative force to inspect every entrant for possible weapons? What should we do if a migrant is found with a gun? Lock them up? Send them back? What do we do if a child was with them? Toss them in cages too?

And the next time Russia invades Ukraine, what then? I guess we just send thoughts and prayers? We don’t have any weapons to send them any more.

Of course that’s to say nothing of what the personal guards of the celebrities and politicians will have to give up.

In short, why don’t you tell me which of YOUR policies you’re willing to give up or change in order to get this gun control dream you declare we must implement.
