Remember when we were told that it was only the Confederates who would be jammed down the memory hole:
All of Western Civilization is on the chopping block for contemporary Leftist racists. I do think the Washington Post should change its name however to something more appropriate like The Deep State Gazette or Race Baiters Daily.
Must be an American thing. You can still go to Rome and see busts and statues of Vespacian and Trajen, et al. They were not particularly nice people.
It is amusing to see the usually-insane WaPo comments section push back on that puerile essay. Multiple claims that the writer either must be a GOP plant or might as well be.
My thought was: “You waited until you were a senior to write this? Interesting…”
When you are seeking total power [ democrats, communists, marxists, and other totalitarians] you must TOTALLY destroy the present power group, and this means eradicating any vestige or mention of any of the present groups heroes and founders. The dictators in Rome did this – just try to find any monument or plaque or inscription in Rome today with this name, “Sejanus,” – the socialist bolsheviks did it, Stalin did it, and now the demtotals are doing it. Why? bottom line: ‘“Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.” Guy, Texas
There’s a profile of the author in The Hatian Times.
Since those teenage days, François has grown to adore Haiti and is the founder of a Haitian club at his college, The George Washington University. Like many young Haitian-Americans coming of age, François overcame the shame of being associated with Haiti and now proudly represents his country.
His parents migrated from Haiti to Bradenton, Florida. Their issue is this youth with his bad attitude and his historical fantasies. While we’re at it, the odds are about 2-1 that his admission to GW required relaxing the common-and-garden standards applied to others. Diversity is our strength.
DL – The US is founded on a principle, not a region or ethnicity. That makes our national narrative more important. It doesn’t phase a Brit, for example, to know that one of their kings was a lunatic. American patriots are always going to lean toward idolization of our history, and their opponents will always tend toward smearing all of it.
DL – The US is founded on a principle, not a region or ethnicity.
No, it was founded piecemeal in a series of locations by people who had a variety of objects. They all set up elective conciliar bodies inspired by models at home.
“Must be an American thing… ”
Actually I’m pretty sure it’s a CCP, Putin, useful idiot thing…
– kill the soul of a nation by tearing down all and any heroes.
Why else would there be such attacks on Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln.. when Karl Marx was both a racist and anti-Semite, responsible for the deaths of millions of people, yet we hear no calls to tear him down.
I think it’s time to call the Left the enemy. The call to love our enemies does not negate the existence of our enemies, nor the need to know our enemies.
Dave, Sometimes you have love your enemy by stopping them from hurting others and damning themselves.
Pinky, you should really look into how China or North Korea are about their leaders…

“American patriots are always going to lean toward idolization of our history”
Since I was in high school in the 80s, the emphasis has increasingly been on the sins of our nation. My second son, when we visited Colonial Williamsburg for the final time, quipped that there is no way we could have had time to fight a revolution, what with so much time spent beating slaves, murdering Indians and oppressing women. And that was what he got from a historical site meant to celebrate our past. If we ever idolized our past, it was long before I was around. And it is from a world my sons have never known.
