The Russians do seem to be in an operational pause right now, which may mean a reassessment of the failed original plan is underway.  I am struck by the fact that the Russians still have not achieved air supremacy over Ukraine and the constant reports of Russian columns running out of fuel and food.  I would expect this from a hastily put together Third World military operation and not from Russia.

The Russians have not fought a real war since 1945. The massacres in Hungary, Syria, Chechnya and walk through invasions of Georgia, Crimea don’t count as wars. Afghanistan was simply a meat grinder for the Russians. Even in WW II, victory was gained through shear force of numbers with terrible casualties. Probably explains why they need a brutal system of discipline to function.

Honestly, mostly all I see is Kiev propaganda and Washington propaganda, and the only reason I don’t see more Moscow propaganda is that I would have to go look for it. My sympathies are with the people on both sides who actually take the bullets, and I think the majority of blame falls on DC – but that’s WAY too long for a comment box.

That’s a cultural reflex not worth squat.
