Putin began his project of reassembling the old Soviet Union during the Obama administration. Obama ridiculed any concern about Putin in one of his debates with Romney in 2012:
Putin’s absorption of the far eastern portion of the Ukraine occurred during Obama’s second term when Obama had “more flexibility” with Putin. Small wonder that Putin waited until Obama’s senile former Vice-President was the Puppet President of these United States before going for all of Ukraine, and that Biden green lighted this act of naked aggression by stating that the US would not respond militarily. When Biden attempts to play act like Churchill today remember that he is not worthy to even carry the umbrella of Neville Chamberlain. God help us all.

A background reason for Bill Clinton to sign the Budapest Declaration with Ukraine is the Left’s obsessive belief that unilateral nuclear disarmament is an absolute goal, combined with the idea that nuclear weapons are not deterrents. Had Ukraine kept its weaponry, it is doubtful that Russia would have been so confident to invade today.
Combine that view also with both the Obama and Biden administrations willingness to facilitate nuclear proliferation to Iran.
It should be a contradiction; but we stopped keeping a count of Leftwing contradictions in policy years ago.
(And now, an added advantage of the present leadership collapse is that CNN and Leftwing “Business Insider” are claiming “Trump and Repubs are siding with Putin.” “Russia Russia Russia.”)
A local radio show host made the joke this morning that we are in trouble because movies stopped having Russian enemies after the 80’s. He and the other members of the show laughed long and hard after that, with all of them saying that it was ridiculous to think that that would have changed anything. But the truth is that most people are far more informed by entertainment than they are by the news, history, philosophy, etc. If movies had continued to show Russia as a threat, Obama never would have been able to get away with his “The 80’s want their foreign policy back” line. It would have also been harder to memory hole Crimea.

The left does not believe in Nuclear Disarmament as an absolute goal. They believe in the destruction of the West (and the family and Christianity and reason) as an ultimate goal. Nuclear disarmament is just a means to that end.
