The policeman restraining the girl with his hands about her throat looks 12-15 inches taller and twice the bulk. If I was going to recruit for a gang of ner-do-wells this is the picture I’d use on my recruiting poster.
I usually go about without a mask. But I am beginning to think that I should not go about without a bit of holy water about me.
The leader of the Liberal Party in the state of Victoria has in recent weeks issued some complaints about the lockdown regime but it’s not clear how committed he is to restoring everyday life and stopping the abuses. The Liberal Democratic Party appears to be the one Australian party thoroughly in opposition. They have just two seats in the Victoria parliament. Victoria holds elections next year. What needs to happen is that about 10% of the public has to switch to the opposition.
Like Victoria, Queensland and WA who are both run by Labor governments have had an unrealistic crush-and-kill the virus policy mentality since the beginning of last year. That is, their strategy over the past 18months has been to shut the borders of their States to the rest of the nation in order to keep the virus out of the State. And it’s worked for now. But you can’t keep borders closed forever and it will eventually get into the States and wreck the political and economic havoc it has elsewhere. NSW in contrast are set to reopen in October and Gladys has said -we have to learn to live with the virus. A State which contributes the largest to the nations economy with 30% GDP and is running with a much smaller budget deficit. And who has the backing of the LNP PM.
Queensland (QLD) border closures have been disastrous for the entire nation, but more so for QLD jobs and business because tourism in QLD makes up close to $20 billion of that States economy. The point here is that despite her inept State policies since the beginning of Covid, Palaszczuk, Queensland Premier, won her third term of government last year in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in October because she convinced her electorate that closing the borders and economic recovery was the best thing for the State. She was re-elected by an overwhelming large retiree population which she fear-mongered with Covid. This whilst her State is set to run a $120billion budget deficit. She had the gall following her election win to ask for financial assistance from the PM blaming Covid. She has driven tourism operators to the ground which are running at below 10% capacity. Jobs have vanished. Not to mention her inhuman policy of allowing the football to continue in the State (allowing wives and girlfriends to cross and stay in hotels) but denying spouses and children to cross the border and see dying family members.
Andrews of Victoria has exercised an overreach of power within his electorate which far exceeds that of QLD and yet we are told that his approval rating is the highest in the country. I’m not confident that Victoria will elect the alternative Mathew Guy (a relative nobody) because the LNP Coalition has been weak in that State for over a decade. Next years Victoria election will be much like the Queensland election, where the LNP opposition won’t even put a hard run against Labor and it will be Palaszczuk part 2 overwhelmingly win. And there be no sympathy from the rest of the nation for Victorians there. They like the punishment dished out there. The State has been a basket case for a long time (pro-abortion laws, Union powers, pro-China deals, anti-Church witch hunts aka Cardinal Pell etc etc)

No problem Don. Just as a side fact (which may or may not relate) the NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet is a practising Catholic who comes from a family of 13 children, and who himself has 6 children. And who is Opus Dei. Makes a difference to have someone like that in government.
