If there is a very bad idea floating around, one can be usually confident that it is being eagerly embraced by the current powers that be at the Vatican.
In #Italy, citizens are burning their vaccine passports to protest the government’s authoritarian health mandates. Protests have erupted in 12 cities as people chant slogans such as “Born free and we’ll die free”.pic.twitter.com/INx8KQQ4x2

I guess green pass is going to come to a Mass/Liturgy near me soon?
My diocese:
“strongly encouraging all parishioners to follow the CDC guidance and to wear a mask while attending Mass or any other Liturgical celebration unless unable because of a medical condition or under the age of two.”
Ridiculous. Anyone who wanted the vaccine has it, overwhelming majority are.
It’s virtue signaling and weakness in deference to the state.
Interesting how the folks who’re adamant that citizens must show “vaccine passports” to
engage in the most mundane activities are the very same people who shriek that showing an ID to vote is unfair and racist.
Is there concealed carry in Vatican City?
“Enough debate. Just go out and get it already. It protects you, your family, and everybody in your community. It’s been proven scientifically, mathematically, and statistically to make everybody safer. The communities that got them are overwhelmingly safer. The chances of side effects or accidents are so unbelievably small that it’s completely absurd to not get one already.
“Quit being selfish, quit arguing online and go buy a forearm.”
Susan quoted on Instapundit,
This whole thing is a personal risk assessment. Anyone who wishes to have had the vaccine would have it already. Government seems bent on crushing any idea of “personal freedom” risk assessment and on exercising their totalitarian power.
And my diocese has bent their knee to the CDC… consequence of the virus of homosexuality and emasculated men in the priesthood.
I’m not wearing a mask, period. If I get the bat flu it’ll almost surely be a bump in the road and I’ll be better off with natural immunity which is better than immunity from an artificial vaccine.
Francis didn’t have to go to all this trouble to keep me from visiting him. It wasn’t going to happen anyway.
I am really struggling right now to stay in the Catholic Church. A friend of mine, whose entire family (husband, 2 children) is Catholic with herself being a convert—has just pulled her children out of their Catholic school & is planning on homeschooling them. She is very discouraged because her local priest, our bishop, the principal of the school, and the vice principal of the school are all extreme Leftists. The parish she is in is known for such leanings. Her 4 year old’s kindergarten teacher this last year taught him that it was ok for him to like & marry a man. The 6th grade social studies teacher is teaching CRT & that Christopher Columbus was an irredeemably evil genocidal/rapist maniac and that the US is evil for having a day to celebrate Christopher Columbus finding America.
Some back ground info…So since my parish in the same city has been conservative/teaching traditional Catholicism in the past, I recommended that she might want to attend my parish & put her kids in the Catholic school operating out of my parish. Since I had donated money to a foundation that pays for the tuition of one of our church member’s schooling to my parish school—and was planning on giving more to the foundation, I wanted to make sure that the school to which I, personally, was donating was not teaching the same evil crap to kids. Hoping my friend would also find a home for her kids to go to school, I had one of the people in our church office text the principal & ask her to call me. That was weeks ago. We have not heard a peep from that principal. So now, am I not giving the money to my parish school foundation (I had already stopped giving money where some of it would get to our ungodly bishop) but I am looking for a new parish. We are waiting for a state attorney general opinion, which is not legally binding in our state on CRT that has been requested by one of our state reps who wants the teaching of CRT and its components in K-12 public education banned statewide. We are expecting the opinion will specify that CRT instruction as fact at that level is a violation of students’ 14th Amendment rights to the US Constitution & their rights under the 1964 Civil Rights Act. We should have the opinion any day. Please note: the paternal grandfather of my friend’s kids who have been taken out of the Catholic Schools was upset enough to call the superintendent of Catholic schools for our diocese & try to get some answers out of her re: his grandchildren’s instruction. He got no where as the superintendent would only give non-answers.
I keep trying to find a way where my conscience is not harmed to advance the gospel through financial donations to Catholic institutions. I honestly am about to give up.
Our bishop within the last 3 years has done some inexcusable things in re: abortion & Planned Parenthood.
sighs & tears
Sorry to hear your friend found one of the (sadly common) only-thing-Catholic-is-the-name schools.
My mom explained at one point that if you’re someone who is actively preying on a specific group, and want to corrupt their kids, you’re going to try to become a teacher of their children.
It’s possible that your parish school hasn’t responded because they’re swamped– I know a lot of good places are, while the “public school but expensive” ones, not so much.
If your friend needs someone to bounce stuff off of, I’m available, my ‘nym at gmail, or can post here, etc. My eldest is doing 6th grade this year, the youngest getting formal education is in 1st this year. 😀
(90% of that support is is “yes, you can do this!”, “Sign up with HSLDA,” and “starfall or education dot com are GREAT training resources, plus Khan Academy Kids if you do tablets,” with the rest being someone to listen and nod sympathetically because kids will always make you go argh! sometimes.)
Christian Teacher – The things we call “struggles” in our 21st century US Catholic lives are tiny compared to the sufferings the Church has had to endure elsewhere, even today. If you want to stop donating to a parish fund, then stop. If you don’t trust your bishop, pray for him. If a school is teaching errors, we have theological texts that St. Jerome could only have dreamed of available on our phones. Don regularly posts lives of the saints, with particular emphasis on the martyrs. They’re good for keeping a sense of perspective.
Someday Donald, you’re going to realize we’re fighting the same exact battle that was fought on Calvary: between those that accepted Christ and became his followers, and those that despite being chosen, put him to death and still reject him to this day.
Christian Teacher: suggestion – find an Eastern-rite parish or an independent chapel where the old rite is used. Get away from the Catholic schools – they’re hopeless. If you can’t homeschool, find a suburb where the public school isn’t all that obnoxious and supplement their curriculum. You might pray that your bishop has the sense to resign.
Catholic schools were a model for the Catholic life to students while giving them a good all around education…. in 1900. Since that point Catholic schools have modeled themselves more and more after public schools, partially out of a desire to not be labeled as anti-American outsiders, partially due to everyone getting swept in the “modern” way of doing things. The decay was slower in Catholic schools than in public school, but they still decayed throughout the 20th century and now most are indistinguishable from public schools, outside of their tuitions.
With that being said the Catholic Church has had a long history of corrupt institutions (though of course it has also done much good.) I forget who said it (maybe Belloc?) but it’s true that the organization of the Church is the best proof for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, since if we were left to our own devices without divine assistance the whole thing would come crumbling down in a matter of months from mismanagement.
Keep in mind that the most important things that the Catholic Church does is administer valid sacraments, and teach dogmatically true teachings (which are a handful in comparison to the nonsense that many priests and bishops will say when given half a chance!) What this means is that the Church contains the fullness of the truth, and we can’t turn away. But at the same time we are not required to follow everything that attaches itself to the Church, including schools, charities, political movements, etc.
If you can homeschool, do that. If you can’t treat the “Catholic” high school like you would a public school, i.e. pay close attention to what your children are being taught and clearly explain to them how they are sometimes being lied to.
It looks like the FDA will be granting formal approval to these assorted products referred to as vaccines very soon, despite the fact that the ongoing testing isn’t expected to be completed for at least another year. When that approval takes place, we will likely see an intensified assault on those who refuse to accept these abortion tainted products. People who are refusing to cooperate with evil will need to support one another. It will be a time of trial.
It typically takes seven years of clinical trial before a drug is approved. Not all drugs are actually approved. Any less than the required testing is pure politics. People have already begun challenging the rush “testing”.
Been doing a lot of reading on the vaccine, as we are in lockdown until 70% of the population receive it. It’s an economic tightrope from where we sit at the moment.
From my reading of literature elsewhere, my understanding to date and from other commenters here- The Covid vaccine uses RNA technology which is the first of it’s kind used on humans. Although we are told that it only attacks the immunity cells to trigger a response and dissolves and doesn’t interact with our DNA, there are no long term studies to show the long term effect on organs and the body using RNA vaccines. That’s what people want to know before they take it. Whether it triggers other adverse health effects. But unfortunately governments are going at a million miles an hour thinking the this vaccine will solve the Covid situation. It won’t. Most people know this, but if the government gives them no choice and threatens their ability to provide for their families then what choice do they have.
I would happily, happily catch Covid and build my own immunity. But we are not given that option.
These passports are a joke that have no longevity. There is no way they will be able to sustain any passport based on a persons medical history. Maybe in the short term it will work to give the government a false sense of security they are “dealing” with Covid but really it’s a phase that has no legs to stand on in the future. They won’t be able to police it.
JFK,
In addition to the rushed nature of the study, there is no longer a control group for the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, nor are there plans to get a new control group. Everyone who was in the control group was offered the vaccine early in the study, and they almost all took it:
https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/02/19/969143015/long-term-studies-of-covid-19-vaccines-hurt-by-placebo-recipients-getting-immuni?t=1628416291657
So not only are the studies much shorter term than usual, they are not controlled studies. It’s politics that gets vaccines approved, not science.
@RH: “It’s politics that gets vaccines approved, not science.”
Too right. Also money. Always follow the money. That’s why God only knows how many people got sick and died from Covid who could have been helped by HCQ and/or Ivermectin.
