In the Red Army of the old Soviet Union, political commissars, Zampoliti, tended to be quietly despised by the real officers attempting to perform real military duties. Zampoliti were usually on the look out for officers they could denounce to the regime.  The upper echelons of our military are now filled with these despicable figures, embracing, and trumpeting, Leftist politics for personal advancement. That they alienate half the country, the half of the country that supplies most of the recruits to the military, matters less than nothing to them. Rather than defenders of the Republic, these politicians in uniform are helping to undermine it.
If our nation has a Civil War II, these ghastly careerists will have played a role in splitting our nation in two.

Another Gilbert and Sullivan number that is similar is “When I was a Lad” from HMS Pinafore

We now have more flag officers on active duty than we did during WW II. There is some wrong with that picture.
We have about 530 flag-rank officers on active duty. IIRC, there were about 3x that during the 2d World War.
There are approximately 920 generals and admirals on active duty. A decent report on the subject of how many we have:

Evidently, your brainless brass hats fear and loathe freedom-loving Americans as much as academia, the media, and their CCP/PLA handlers.
Apparently, there’s grade inflation in academia and the US military.
Consider this. Say there are one-third as many flag officers in 2021 compared to 1944 (12 million men/women were in uniform). Are there one-third as many combat battalions/brigades, naval groups/fleets, bomber/fighter aircraft groups/wings? I think it’s more like one-tenth as many as 1944.
