Priorities

News that I missed, courtesy of The Babylon Bee:

DETROIT, MI—According to a tragic report, local mother Lyn Smith has given birth to a precious brand-new human life, completely missing out on having her soul crushed every day in her corporate career. Mr. Smith has picked up extra hours at his job so she can stay home with her baby

Sources say Mrs. Smith has given life to a gorgeous baby boy who has filled her life with transcendent love and meaning, unlike anything she has ever experienced.

Unfortunately, this has caused her to miss out on the coveted “Salesperson of the Fiscal Quarter” award at her former employer Omnicorp. She has also missed out on 1823 hours of overtime, 372 Zoom meetings, 12 unwanted advances from male co-workers, and all the respect of feminists familiar with the situation.

“Just look at her over there, rolling on the floor with that sweet, pudgy little baby,” said her former co-worker Sandra as she took her cats out to brunch. “Disgusting. Just a baby factory for her husband. Too bad she’ll never match my achievements in life!” she said as she held up her coveted “Most Improved Office Assistant of the Fiscal Quarter” award.

Go here to read the rest.  My Bride and I agreed that I would work long hours at the Law Mines so she could do the hard work of raising our kids, the most important task that either of us will accomplish.  I contributed to the process of course, but the consistent day to day care was given by my Bride.  Quality of time is no substitute for quantity of time.  Not everyone can do this.  Certainly out of financial need my mother began working after both my brother and I were in grade school, but if it is possible financially for one parent to be home with the kids, it should be done.

Interesting. I wrote essentially the same thing this morning about the girl at Philippi possessed by the power of divination and controlled by her master for profit – Acts chapter 16.

My wife homeschools our 6 kids. When people ask me if she works, I say, “yes, much harder than I do.”

My husband and I decided to live on his salary and save mine so that when the first child came along I could stay at home. Three years later around my due date I resigned my regular active commission and received my reserve commission the next day. The admiral I worked for was very supportive of our choice. Three days after our son was born my husband flew past the hospital on his way out to ship for a short 3 month deployment. Luckily my parents and my husband, when he was not deployed, baby sat on reserve weekends and the annual two weeks of active duty. Also we squadron wives were very supportive of each other. It wasn’t always easy; made sacrifices but we felt the boys were worth it. My husband once said to me once, “You just want the boys to have a 1950s and 60s childhood”. True.
I was pleased to note that the young mom in the video did mention that she had a husband. .

I have great respect for homeschooler parents. The children seem well adjusted and do very well academically. Thanks to the greedy teacher unions there will be more children home schooled or in religious oriented schools after COVID is over. But that’s a whole nother post.

open offer If someone needs support, troubleshooting or just someone to ask weird questions of about for home schooling, I’m available– my user name and then it’s gmail, or can holler here, too.

Every kid is different, and no it’s not all roses and sunshine, but it is really awesome when the kid who refuses to do his phonics suddenly shows that he can read, or when the kid who doesn’t focus well ends up playing computer games into lunch time…because it’s “Learn Japanese To Survive! Hiragana Battle” and she’s working on reading the language.
