Saint Wando was educated as a boy at the abbey of Saint-Wandrille in Fontenelle. As a deacon, he accompanied the former bishop of Sens (Frisia) to Fontenelle in 690. The mission was unsuccessful, but Wando performed a miracle. He drove out the devil who tried to divert the boat on which they were.
Returning after this missionary experience, in Fontenelle, he became a monk in 696 living for about 20 years in the silence. In 714 he involved himself with political events that followed the death of Pipino d’Heristal. He saw him as opposition from him to take the office of Austrasia, Raginfredo and Carlo Martello. He was exiled to Troyes because of false accusation but reinstated when his innocence was proven.
