My favorite off beat Western, The Frisco Kid (1979). John Wayne was considered for the Harrison Ford role of Tommy Lillard , and he expressed some interest, but salary concerns, script problems and the illness which would end in his death prevented his participation. More’s the pity, although Ford is great as the bank robber with a heart of gold.
Regarding Henry (1991.) Presumed Innocent (1990)
.
Witness. Probably his best non-action movie. Probably his best part as an actor.
Agree on Witness Dave. A very deep film that rewards repeated watchings.
Would not have worked. The Duke didn’t do comedy well, and Ford can.
He was good in Frantic and I liked him in Sabrina.
Witness and Working Girl with good performances from Melanie Griffith and Joan Cusack. The costumes and hairdos of the working girls were a hoot. The Fugitive. I liked the TV version better with David Janssen and the actor who played his nemesis.
Sabrina. The original with Audrey Hepburn, Bogart and William Holden much better than the Harrison remake.
Beg to differ on the Duke: Donovan’s Reef, McClintock and Trouble Along the Way all demonstrate that Wayne could do comedy.
Firewall is an infamous Ford film among the mst3k/rifftrax fandom.
Apocalypse Now (1979) as Colonel G. Lucas, as in George Lucas.
I missed the qualifier of liking the movie. I saw the movie but it was so raw that I don’t think that I would have an interest in repeat viewings.
