Fly the Diverse Skies

I trust my personal injury brethen of the bar are taking note for future reference that United is admitting that they care more about what their pilots look  like than they do about the ability of the pilots.

Okay, cool. Let us see who the pilot is who flies the United CEO and other executives to their vacation destinations.

I don’t like broad brush attacks against pilots anymore than I like broad brush attacks against any dad or mom trying to earn a living for their families while dealing not only with the public but also “management”. A difficult. And demanding job carrying great responsibility. The disrespectful attacks on the judgement and ability of the pilot that some people think are funny can also invite more difficult incidents for the frontline workers

Something that no one likes to talk about is that these “diversity” policies make judgments based on race completely rational for the average person. For example, take doctors. It’s very clear that a black students are allowed into medical school with lower scores than white students. See <a href=”https://www.aei.org/carpe-diem/new-chart-illustrates-graphically-racial-preferences-for-blacks-and-hispanics-being-admitted-to-us-medical-schools/>here, or this article which tries to “debunk” the notion but openly admits that black students are more likely to get in with lower scores and that if race were not considered hundreds of black students would not make it to medical school.

So it is a fact that if all you know about two doctors is that one is black and the other is white, then statically it is very likely that the black doctor did worse in school. Note that if acceptance was only did via merit that would not be true and such a judgment would be racist, but with the medical system that we have it is a fact that the black doctor probably has worse medical skills. So if you aren’t given any other information about the doctors, which do you go to?

Same thing here. If the airline aggressively hires based on sex and race, then they will necessarily have to make compromises in terms of ability (just because of the more limited pool). But if they hire a white man it can only be because he was really qualified, since he somehow got through even when they were trying to not hire white men. So in that situation if you see a black woman piloting your plane it isn’t racist to panic.
