Revolutionary War for the 21rst Century

Interesting fan remix of the movie The Patriot (2000) focusing on Lord Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson).  The film got endless historical facts wrong, but it captured well the mixture of guerilla war and conventional war, the hallmark of the war in the South, the forgotten theater of the American Revolution, which decided the outcome of the Revolution.  There is much to learn by our contemporary military from close study of these campaigns:  Guerilla warfare, atrocities, dealing with hostile and/or divided populations, great power interventions, indigenous peoples (Indians), the breakdown of law and order, the key role of political organization, militia free lancers, the use of propaganda;   it is all there and more for those with the wit to see it.  The war in the South from 1778-1782 is extremely, one might say painfully, relevant in this year of grace 2021.

Bonus:

Cornwallis laments the 18th century equivalent of “the deplorables” as his world is turned upside down:

I remember reading a biography on Francis Marion also known as the Swamp Fox of revolutionary gorilla war fame, in fourth grade. I still have fond memories of reading that book. In fact that book I think more than any other, inspired my love of reading. It also tempered my understanding of the revolutionary war. Being a young Yankee from Massachusetts I was left with thought:
“Why is the role of the South in the revolutionary war not taught as well as it should be?”

D WS, I heard about my MA , RI ancestors in MA and RI fighting for independence visiting grandparents in MA. Good question because the most battles of the War were fought in South Carolina. In Catholic grade school in VA it was all about the NE and Mid Atlantic ending with the surrender in Yorktown VA..

What happened to Disney? My brother and I never missed an episode of Swamp Fox, Zorro (fictitious character), Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, The Grey Ghost and Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. The nature series also were entertaining and educational.

If a war for independence (or secession) were fought in 2021 we know who the Benedict Arnolds would be.
There’s a move afoot in Texas for secession; they are gathering signatures. Would that all the red state legislatures and those of border states would toy with the idea. It might send a very powerful message to the White House and Congress. It’s not about Trump. It’s about the Emperor and his executive orders and Congress who doesn’t care to legislate. They are more interested in theater. What are the odds of the Dems video garnering some awards…..Best Documentry at the Cannes Film Fest?

The movie “The Insurrection” wouldn’t do well in theaters. It would be obvious 10-minutes-in that this riotous mob wasn’t interested in overthrowing government, they were interested (mistakenly or not) in preserving it after what they believed was a fraudulent election and they were wholly unpaired to “seize power”. If the election had been transparent there wouldn’t have been a mob, and Donald Trump although he acted poorly, is not responsible for that.

If they make a movie about the “insurrection” it won’t reflect reality in the slightest. Every protestor will be a blatant white supremacist with plenty of scenes of them talking about how they intend to murder every member of congress and then go onwards to a race war. They will have characters openly say that they do not think that Biden rigged the election, and that in fact Trump tried to rig the election and failed. Everything will be at complete odds with the truth.

It still won’t do well in theaters because all but the most woke on the left are sick of such propaganda pieces. But the point isn’t to make money any more.

There is a YouTube channel called “Nerdrotic” that has many videos critical of the woke SJW repurposers for ruining film franchises. Franchises like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who. IIRC one of the groups critical of the woke SJWs is called the Fandom Menace.

GregB, for funny movie and TV show reviews I recommend a YouTube channel called “The Critical Drinker”. He’s a “drunk” Scotsman who points out all of the various “woke”, PC, etc. decisions that are ruining everything.
