PopeWatch: Impeachment

The impeachment trial of Pope Francis has entered its third week and the prosecution is still going strong.  Archbishop Vigano has just finished a week of testimony which reached its liveliest moment after he stated:

“In my opinion, what we are witnessing represents the general rehearsal for the establishment of the kingdom of the Antichrist, which will be preceded by the preaching of the False Prophet, the Precursor of the one who will carry out the final persecution against the Church before Our Lord’s definitive and crushing victory.”

At that point Cardinals Cupich, Tobin and Gregory began to froth at the mouth and chant in bad Latin the lyrics of The Devil Came Down to Georgia.

The impeachment trial has been a smash in the ratings, drawing record viewership to watch.  The Trump Organization is negotiating the rights to a best of DVD and streaming release.

Why the Pope agreed to the impeachment trial is still mysterious since the Roman Catholic Church does not allow for the removal of a Pope.  His choice, as jurors in the trial, of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is also regarded as more than odd.  Some Vatican observers have speculated that the Pope has been driven mad by the pain of sciatica.  Others claim this is all a Peronist plot to smoke out the enemies of the Pope.  Ninety-six year old Eugenio Scalfari has claimed that the Pope, in yet another interview with him, stated that he had agreed to the impeachment trial for the entertainment value, anything to get his mind off the sciatica.

Considering that the Judge of the impeachment trial, selected by the Pope, is Lutheran Pastor Hans Fiene, the mastermind behind The Lutheran Satire, perhaps the Pope’s explanation is correct.  The next witness up is Saint Peter.

At that the Trial Transcript which PopeWatch had been reading in bed, fell on him and roused him from his slumber and his dream.
