Rand Paul can be annoying to me at times, but he is without a doubt one of the most principled members of the Senate. If Trump does not run in 2024, the party could do far worse than have him as a standard bearer.
Four of the five characters in the Republican caucus who fancy you can hold impeachment proceedings in regard to someone who has left office are Senators who have been antagonistic to the President generally. Any actual legal arguments between your ears, Prof. Sasse?
I think an even bigger signal that this is dead on arrival is the fact that Justice Roberts doesn’t want anything to do with it. If he thought it would go through he would be front and center to take the glory of defeating Orange Man forever. But he is first and foremost someone who won’t stick out his own neck, so if he isn’t there, he thinks it will go nowhere.
Vindictive is an adjective that many people in the Capitol should realize is apt for what they do with their time. How can this help them to live up to their oaths of office, they might wonder.
So, 55 Senators think it is Consitutional.
I wonder if this absurdity of an impeachment isn’t just a distraction, keeping the public’s attention while more sinister maneuvers go on in the shadows.
For example, while all the media breathlessly reports on Impeachment!!!, HB1 is in the legislative pipeline, and if it ends up passing it will enshrine mail-in voting, same-day registration, and ballot harvesting nationwide. In short, it will insure that every future federal election is as grotesquely corrupt as 2020’s— and the Democrats will control DC forever after.
Impeachment is sound and fury, signifying nothing. But while it’s dominating the news, it’s distracting sane people from the necessity of strangling threats like HB1 while they’re in the crib.

It will get precisely nowhere in the Senate. The Democrats do not have a master plan in regard to impeachment. In the wake of the Capitol Hill Riot they thought they had an outside chance for conviction in the Senate. They realize they do not. I think Schumer would drop it as a waste of time, but the Democrat Left will not tolerate this. So they go forward with this exercise in futility.
I don’t disagree with you, Donald— but I wonder if this farce, though it’s doomed to fail, isn’t useful to the left because it’s distracting attention from other, worse things the Left’s getting up to…
