Not a Time for Unity

from Wikimedia Commons

Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s enemies shall be they of his own household.”—Matt 10:34-36 (Douay-Rheims)

Recently I sent an email to friends and family that I had quit Facebook and added that I would be publishing articles about the “anti-life, anti-freedom” administration to be installed that day (Jan 20th).     I received the following comments from two people who had voted for Biden:

Dr. X (a member of my parish, presumably pro-life):

“I would ask that you avoid labelling, name-calling and ad hominem arguments regarding the new administration.  If you have a point to make or a disagreement, please do so in a logical and fact-filled manner without any of the above.  We as a nation have had enough of this demonization for the past four years.  In addition to your pro-life endeavors, some protestation against anti-Semitism would be appropriate, especially since it seems to be rearing its ugly head again, as evidenced on January 6th.  As Christians we should be generating light, not heat, dialogue not division. [emphasis added]”

Mr. Y (a member of a Catholic 12 Step group):

“I  know you are familiar with both the 12 Steps and the 12 Traditions of AA. I would draw your attention to the 1st Tradition: ‘Our common welfare must come first. Personal recovery depends on AA unity.’ [emphasis added] Certainly, this applies to our social and political lives, our lives as Americans. United we stand. We have far more in common than the differences that separate us. And this is certainly true of us as Catholics.”

Moreover, the headline in our local paper was “End this Uncivil War” (red vs. blue) from Biden’s inaugural speech.

Well, I will not be silent and subdued.   The teachings of the Catholic Church on the sanctity of life from conception to natural death and on the family must be preserved, despite the efforts of nominally Catholic politicians and some highly placed ecclesiastical officials to bypass them.  I won’t recount these efforts;  readers of this blog are well aware of them.  We must pray for our enemies, for their conversion to righteousness.   And if I sound like a stump evangelical in saying that…so be it.

I don’t know the people who replied to you, but I wonder where they were when the Anti-Trumpsters were spreading hatred? 🙁

What anti-semitism? Trump has been the most pro-Israel President in history. He has a Jewish daughter and Jewish grandkids. Has this fellow always been an idiot?

Peak Irony?

They misspent the past four years viciously attacking – every calumny, false witness, libel, slander they could concoct – President Donald J. Trump (and, by the way, you and me) and now they want to rewrite History as if it never happened.

Your friends, tech titans, and et al will attempt to silence you because their actions, ideas, policies are too stupid and self-serving to withstand honest debate.

Welcome to the Idiocracy.

He might better direct his ire to the Left in this country where hatred of Israel is an article of faith. If an anti-Semite was supporting Trump he was really barking up a wrong tree. Of course anti-Semitism had bupkis to do with the Capitol Hill Riot.

3 of my Biden supporting children have become alienated from me. I plan to call them in a month or two, a cooling off period. They are also strongly supportive of Pope Francis and his new heretical Catholicism.

This could be a divide too wide to cross. We shall see how God plans to answer my prayers about my alienated children. Of course, we have been told to expect this kind of this as noted abvove.

There are some things that we as traditional Catholics cannot turn the other cheek on. Some things like abortion and other evils cannot be compromised.
Nancy Pelosi just threw down the gauntlet when she said impeaching Trump would unify the country. She’s the fool not us.
Praying for America.

Don, the doc in question was, I believe, referring to Trump supporters rather than Trump himself.

It’s still a fantasy. Gassy attitudinizing on his part is not a good look.

‘Unity’ is beneficial only when you have a common object. You need unity on battlefields. In everyday life, including public life, you need only a measure of courtesy and forbearance. Biden’s not the one to offer that message without triggering peals of laughter, even if he were lucid. In point of fact, the leaders of our institutions are (as a rule) such manifest humbugs that none of them can credibly offer any inspiration at all.

“End this Uncivil War”

Tell that to the people who waged a decades-long lawfare campaign against the Boy Scouts of America, to the people who politicize knitting (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhBER1SLOqo), to the people generating travesties like this (https://thenakeddollar.blogspot.com/2020/12/teacher-demands-at-dalton.html),. for the people firing public employees for private conversations contra the party line (https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2020/10/19/vermont-principal-fired-for-facebook-post-critical-of-black-lives-matter), for the people trying to drive bakers out of business (while insisting that monopolistic tech companies should be able to harass anyone they wish). We’re in this war because certain people cannot leave others alone. Now we have poseurs insisting the rest of us adopt the mentality commonly attributed to battered wives. They can piss off.

“Anti-Semitism” being displayed on January 6th? That’s a new one to me.

It’s fascinating in a way to see the events of that day being rewritten in real time.

While often applied to marriage, 2nd Corinthians 6:14-16a applies here as well:

14 Do not be mismated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Be′lial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols?

As Christians, we cannot be united with the Biden Administration. It is utterly and completely evil.

Yes, 1st Peter 2:13-17 also applies:

13 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution,[b] whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing right you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men. 16 Live as free men, yet without using your freedom as a pretext for evil; but live as servants of God. 17 Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

But respecting the office of the Presidency and honoring the President by virtue of his office are very different things from uniting one’s self to Belial (a Hebrew word “used to characterize the wicked or worthless”) that cooperation with or agreement to the initiatives of the Biden Administration would require.

In other words –> the Biden Administration is evil. We have to honor leaders whether they are good or bad. But we cannot cooperate with an evil leader’s initiatives. We cannot be united with him even if we must respect him by virtue of his high office (as St. Peter required of the early Christians for Emperor Nero).

The irony is that Semitic people (the descendants of Shem, son of Noah) include both Jews and Arabs.

Jethro : You have come far.

Moses : From Egypt.

Jethro : Across the desert on foot? He who has no name surely guided your steps.

Moses : No name? You Bedouins know the god of Abraham?

Jethro : Abraham is the father of many nations. We are the children of Ishmael, his firstborn. We are the obedient of God.

https://www.schoolhouserights.org/the-lawsuit.html

You want to ‘end this civil war’, you people have to stop pulling stunts like what’s detailed in this lawsuit. There are more than a few godawful people employed in schoolteaching and administration. The sort of people who fancy a high school with limited resources should require students to take a course with a title like ‘Sociology of Change’ chock a block with political indoctrination. (Or should offer sociology at all as a subject. A grand total of 2% of the manpower in primary and secondary schooling is devoted to voTech, you have youngsters who cannot identify the correct half century in which the Civil War occurred, but we have the funds for ‘Sociology of Change’. These people are vile.

Fox News is controlled opposition, and has been for at least 3 years and probably longer.

If they go down at this point, it’s part of the plan. Half of the employees will get cushy jobs at leftist outlets (after they have a moment where they “cannot in good faith” follow the direction of the conservative movement) while the other half will infiltrate whatever the new real conservative outlet is in an attempt to sabotage it too.

Ad hominem? The idea that the Biden administration is anti-life and anti-freedom can be supported by evidence. It is only name calling when it’s not true or there is no evidence.
