If you had told me 30 years ago that the day would come when I would view Dershowitz as a legal hero I would have considered you as being marking mad. Time, the great magician. Bonus:

I saw the stream. During part of the discussion the subject of same sex marriage came up. Dershowitz gave a complete modernist version of marriage to accuse opponents of same sex marriage of bigotry. He seemed to overlook the statements of Genesis and Christ in Matthew 19 saying that the one flesh union of marriage was between a man and a woman, husband and wife. His views on abortion were for the most part standard issue modernist. If one generation can abort another generation, then that generation can also destroy, abort, the US Constitution and refuse to pass it on intact to the Posterity cited in the Preamble to the Constitution. Posterity are the future generations of unborn Americans.
Dershowitz is wrong and often obnoxious on certain issues. The thing is, he has a set of fixed principles to which he gives voice. I think you could say the same of Jonathan Turley, Matt Taibbi, and Glenn Greenwald. For most of the left nowadays, it’s all trash talk and guises and poses taken for tactical reasons.
Dershowitz is no conservative, but as Art noted he has his principles and he has stuck to them. He also has one of the finest legal minds I have encountered.
