I mentioned this earlier, but it bears repeating—
the social media accounts of actual despots like Putin and Turkey’s Erdogan are untouched by concern-trolling Big Tech, but the President of the United States is censored and silenced.
It’s ironic that while social media tech should make speech freer, the opposite is very much the case.
The Tech Lords like foreign tyrants as long as they can make money off them. An authoritarian regime in these United States aligned with them likewise would be good for their bottom line, or so they have concluded.

The more decentralized environment prior to 2007 or thereabouts did make it freer. We’ve been undone by ‘networking effects’. By 2015, so much public discourse was sent through a few channels that they could do this. What’s interesting is the shift in the culture of tech. You read Wired magazine & c. 25 years ago, and you got the impression that people working in tech were by default libertarians when they invested any thought to political questions. We’ve all been blindsided by the events of the last five years. (After having been blindsided by the events of the previous dozen). I don’t know where the bottom is. The world of 1997 was a very agreeable place in regard to public events and public discourse in comparison to the world we have right now. There are advocates of free public discourse at large on the left (Glenn Greenwald, Alan Dershowitz, Jonathan Turley), but they are lone wolves. The leftoids on Turley’s comment boards denounce him as a ‘Trump shill’ due to his critical distance from the Democratic Party.
Perhaps a primary part of national and global populism growth is from alarm of a growing globalist agenda. The establishment leaders of both US political parties consider themselves to be part of a global elite, this may explain the obsession to exile Trump from any future political Office.
Many foreign leaders have great admiration for Trump and his achievements. If driven from national politics, I wonder if Trump has considered a populist movement project to build a coalition of free/fair trade nations.

The CEO of Parler said he thinks they might be able to get the site back up in about a week. I have to wonder what kind of service contract they could have had if it can be cancelled with zero notice. (Or maybe Amazon just says ‘go ahead and sue’). It’s really chilling if some of the actions taken against Parler are not actionable.
I think Gab has their own intramural hosting so they cannot be shut down the way Parler has been.
What’s more ironic is the ones who are quick to call you a “fascist” or a “nazi” are instantaneously quick to use real fascist and nazi tactics against you once they seize power.
Now thats ironic!
