If you thought the public health apparat had hit bottom and couldn’t sink any lower, scooch on over to one of the disreputable Mr. Sailer’s threads. I’d say worst political class in history, but sometimes it seems as if the entire professional-managerial element in this country just spilled out of a clown car.

Father Z posted an interesting and disturbing piece about the Papacy, COVID, and Pachamama: https://wdtprs.com/2020/12/about-that-demon-cult-bowl-placed-on-st-peters-altar-wheres-the-damned-bowl-now/ .

It occurs that many folks are willing to accept that there are multiple dimensions but reject that the spiritual realm exists. Seems to me that angels and demons are pretty active these days.

If I had billions $$, I’d build a state-of-the-art lab, hire real scientists [extremely limited in supply], and pay them tens of millions $$$ to clone the Possum with Big Foot and genetically code the eight-foot tall results to eat Democrats.

T Shaw.

I know of 74 million people who might kick in $100.00 each to reach your goal. Sure. They, like you, feel robbed. GoFundMe is just a few clicks away.
A Possfoot is coming soon!
Hurray!

Is anyone else suffering from Ads taking over their screens? I’m viewing on my phone, but starting today, everytime I switch screens / stories on the American Catholic website, I get an Ad that takes over the whole screen that has to be turned off before I can see the page.

Anyone else getting sick of the term “food insecurity”? I hear this thrown around all the time, usually with ridiculously high numbers.

Most of the time the people throwing around the numbers will not clarify what it means beyond “it means people are struggling with food.” In the rare times I am actually able to find the actual methodology it always comes down to answering in the affirmative to several questions. And while there are usually some questions that definitely show a problem with hunger (ex. “was there a day in the last month where you did not eat for the entire day because you had no ability to get food?”) many others are far less worrying (ex. “was there at least one time in the last month where you weren’t sure if you would be able to eat as large of meal as you would like, as healthy of meal that you would like, or the type of food that you would like, because you did not have sufficient money?”) And usually the threshold for being “food insecure” is quire low so that it is certain that many people in that category never answered “yes” to any really dire question.

I must say that the North American possum is a bit ugly – has an almost dog face. The Australian possums are a much cuter looking animal, but since they were imported into New Zealand about 160 years ago, they have become a huge pest. They are herbivorous usually, and feast on our native trees which are slow growing, and thus become a real problem with regeneration of the native forests. Also, because they have no natural predators in NZ, they also eat our native birds eggs – so they are a huge pest – and with our temperate climate, they breed prolifically. There is actually an industry around possum shooting & trapping – their fur is very soft & fine, and is used variously for making warm winter jackets and jerseys (used like wool), and as a filter in the production of nylon. Big money can be made as a possum trapper/shooter.

Whilst on the subject of possums, they are a nocturnal animal, and stay in their ‘basement’ during the day – just like Joe Biden. Perhaps creepy sleepy uncle Jos could also be ‘Possum Joe’. Even though your possums are a bit ugly, that would suit Joe down to his ears.

The only native North American marsupial they’re not generally going to contract rabies at all. Not immune, “marsupial”. Omnivores with large canines they’ll kill and eat other animals including live chickens if they can get to them. But no hard feelings “Everybody likes chicken.”

Yes! One of my many irritation triggers in this culture of lies. The one that galls me the most is the oft-repeated trope that “one in seven” or “one in five” American children go to bed hungry every night. Pure fiction, as proven nine years ago, at least. But it persists because it serves the leftist purpose of making people dependent on government.

Rudolph-
I’ve been sick of it since it was the new dodge for “struggling with hunger” in the 90s. People started getting suspicious when told that one in ten people were hungry, and wanted to know how that number was reached….

Amazingly, when you ask kids if they got to eat as much of what they wanted, a lot of them say no. It’s kind of a known thing, that kids lack restraint and don’t want food that’s good for them.

Possum is a favorite in many road-kill cookbooks.

Tip: You can be sure your road kill pot roast is fresh if you scoop it (carry a shovel in your pick up) up on the way home and it wasn’t there on your way out to the general store.

After China Joe and the ‘Ho get a holt on the economy, people will be eating possum – once they’ve eaten all the zoo animals and race horses.

Cheers!

Social science stats are always proxies for what we really want to measure. And a lot of them are lousy proxies. We all know how bad of a measure the “pay gap” is. We want to measure whether women are being treated unfairly, but we use a stat that only kind of hints at the answer. With nutrition and poverty, it’s even worse. Have you ever had instant ramen instead of steak? Sure. What we really want to know is if your development is being hampered by limited access to nutrition for financial reasons. That’s too complicated to measure.

A similar stat is “food deserts”. They’re supposed to indicate areas where people don’t have access to nutritional food. The thing is, you can eat healthy if you’re walking distance to a 7/11 and a Burger King. Also, poorer people travel as far as richer people to buy food, so proximity to grocery stores really doesn’t matter much.

Of course, if you ever walk down the street, you’ll notice that there aren’t a lot of thin people. But that’s deceptive too, because you can be fat and malnourished. That usually comes down to bad decision-making though.

T. Shaw.

A nephew picked up that cookbook at Roland’s RoadKill Cafe. Their motto is also their Tuesday special; Yesterday’s bait is today’s sushi!
Makes great sense. What you have left over from fishing just eat.
Octopus, salmon roe, Toro…you name it, they will serve it to you in an old used cottage cheese carton.

That Roland.

Stay away from the Calico special.

Hey. That’s the hip Venezuelan diet the kids are all excited about.
No wonder they like Bernie Sanders.

If you have a henhouse and hear a commotion therein at night, it is most likely Mr Possum getting a meal. Climbs right up on the roost and grabs his chicken dinner.. Possums are edible, once by necessity. You never eat a wild possum caught without putting him on a diet of sweet potatoes for a few weeks. They are fond of eating dead things and attempting to eat Mr Possum without the sweet potato purge can lead to nasal distress.
