Merry Christmas from Menards

Recently, my company asked me to go shopping.

Our R&D group out of Japan was looking to test some surfactants from the U.S. found in common soap, like dishwasher detergent. Surfactant is used to keep polymers from coagulating in a specific type of developer bath we use. I found an abundance of an appropriate detergent at Menard’s, so I bought-up a bunch at three different stores in the NW suburbs of Chicago.

Point of the post is that each store was boldly and publicly proclaiming “Merry Christmas!” on all their bags; at least the ones I could see…and I was looking. The store is not national, but with over 300 stores mostly in the Midwest, I still think it takes some guts in this age of inclusivity.

Even on a secular level, I don’t understand the reluctance to say “Merry Christmas” publicly, other than an intentional war on Christmas.  I get trying to be more inclusive, but unlike Easter for example, Christmas is a Federal (and therefore public) holiday, and the only Federal/Public holiday in the month of December, so does it make any sense to avoid speaking of it?

If yes, then “Happy 4th of July” can be next. I think people can be found who are not “Happy” about the birth of the United States. What about their feelings?

My wife and I were speaking with one of their department managers about 2 months ago. He told us that Mr. Menard still runs the operation. He has his personal reputation to consider and according to this fellow really cares what his customers think and want and that bag is a perfect example of his involvement.

“I think people can be found who are not “Happy” about the birth of the United States. What about their feelings?”

Oh my gosh…please don’t get me started. 🙂

All kidding aside, you unfortunately are right. They are there. The ungrateful. It used to be that immigrants would assimilate into the American culture [pre-woke] but now it’s America must assimilate into Our Culture. What’s that?
See AOC and the wrecking ball crew.

“I don’t understand the reluctance to say “Merry Christmas” publicly, other than an intentional war on Christmas.” Not just Christmas but Christianity in general because most Christian beliefs are against what they believe and want and it galls them to rage.

“Attorney General Nessel is Jewish and the first openly LGBTQ person elected to statewide office in Michigan.

Nessel said on Twitter,

“I remember the first time I was at a store with my son and an employee said ‘Merry Christmas’ to us. My son looked devastated as he asked ‘Are we the only people who don’t celebrate Christmas?’ I answered ‘No, and we are just as American as everyone else.’ Glad @JoeBiden knows that.”

Her tweet was later deleted. Nessel then issued another tweet, writing:

“Saying ‘Happy Holidays’ this time of year does not denigrate Christianity. It simply acknowledges and respects the great diversity of our nation and includes each and every one of us who call ourselves proud Americans.”

Her less than joyful tweets stirred up some bad tidings among other Twitter users. One user said:

“This is the stupidest tweet ever, combining bad parenting with this bizarre desire to be a martyr in the face of somebody saying something pleasant to her. What a jerk. Grow up.”

Another tweet came in saying:

“You could have just replied with “Happy Holidays” and moved on. I tell Jewish people Happy Hanukkah and they say Merry Christmas and WE CONTINUE ON WITH OUR LIVES.”

While yet another user questioned her parenting:

“If your kid was devastated by someone wishing you a Merry Christmas, you’re doing parenting wrong.”
