Some things simply cannot be unseen no matter how strongly you wish that were possible. From November 17, 1978. For the masochists among our readers, the entire Holiday Special is available on You Tube. It is amazing that this did not succeed in killing the Star Wars franchise.
Next to this Pigs in Space was Hamlet:
I don’t know about Hamlet, but Pigs in Space was certainly ham. In every sense of the word.
I often tell my sons about the blank stares of me and my classmates the day after we watched that. I explain it’s difficult in our digital age to understand how we looked forward to anything Star Wars in the days before VCRs. I often get a kick out of Lucas trying to distance himself from this. I’m sure he wasn’t personally involved, but like most of Lucas’s memories, I’m sure he was at least aware and gave his stamp of approval.
Ah, the 1970s. If you fondly remember it, you weren’t really there.
How can you possibly dis a decade that produced leisure suits, Kung Fu Fighting and Jimmy Carter lecturing the American people as to how his failed presidency was the fault of their spirtual malaise?
Sarc off. I came of age in that kidney stone of a decade and I wish I could wipe it from my memory!
As did I, Don. Just a year behind you. For a time I lamented the airlines losing a suitcase of mine that had a key lime green, raw silk bell-bottom 3-piece suit in it.
Then it became one of the greatest favors anybody’s ever done for me.
🙂
I have a picture of myself in a best man’s suit, brown with ruffles, from that period which I keep under lock and key and use occasionally for spiritual mortification and to scare the dog.
The “Pitch Meeting” series by Ryan George on Youtube is consistently funny. His episode about the SWHS is an absolute scream, and allows you to save a couple hours of your life.

Amazing how bad it was. Back in the seventies people watched endless junk on television and thought nothing of it, but this stood out for being absolutely horrendous even then.

I watched about 2 min of it and that was enough.
