Saint of the Day Quote: Saint Amelberga

Benedictine nun.  Abbess of Susteren Abbey. Died circa 900.  Not to be confused with  Saint Amalberga, a rare beauty of the eighth century, who Charlemagne, it is said, attempted to take by force from her convent in order to marry her.  She successfully resisted with such fervor that her arm was broken.  A chastened Charlemagne fell ill and was only restored to health by her prayers.  Patron saint of people with broken arms.  Her feast day is July 10.  Some saints dwell in obscurity and others have brushes with the great of this Earth, all minor details no doubt in Heaven.
