Maybe what this professor meant to say is: “The Republican Party threatens mob rule.” That makes a whole lot more sense. One of my uncles convinced me to read Plato’s Republic about 20 years ago and that shored up my intuition about the nature of naked democracy. It always devolves into totalitarian rule.

We’ve had nothing resembling ‘naked democracy’ at any time in the last 60-odd years. What we’re facing now isn’t ‘naked democracy’ but the subversion of democracy by politicized courts, abusive federal agencies, selective law enforcement at the local level, and rampant vote fraud.
Maybe what this professor meant to say is:
She’s a frigging political science professor at frigging Harvard. She should be able to say precisely what she means in the controlled vocabulary of the guild. No excuses.
