This was the processional hymn at the online Sunday Mass I watched (attended?) this Sunday the 18th. Note also the other verses:
“Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn Thy Christ, assail his ways…Cure Thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to Thy control, shame our wanton selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.”
The priest gave a homily that began with a short biography of St. Jeanne Jugan, foundress of the order, “The Little Sisters of the Poor.” This is the order which the Obama administration and the Attorney-General of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, sued for not allowing contraceptives to be made available (under the Obama Care mandate).
The suit was overturned by the Supreme Court in a 7-2 decision but no mention was made of prohibiting future suits. So Shapiro, in his zeal to deal with immoral Catholics, has instituted a suit again. As a measure of his Catholic faith, Joe Biden has promised to renew legal action against the Little Sisters if he is elected. As the priest said in his homily, this suit is about forcing a group which had always rendered unto Caesar that which IS Caesar’s, but now are being forced to render unto Caesar that which is God’s.
I’ll quote from the homily (as near as I can). I would like to link to the homily itself, but given the possibility of retaliation by political or even (I hate to say) ecclesiastic authorities, I won’t give information about the priest or his parish.
“If we lived in a sane country, if our government had its priorities straight this would never have happened…We [people supporting Democrats?] are so attached to lust that we must involve everyone in it .. if the government goes after people like the Little Sisters of the Poor they will have no difficulty whatever in going after people like us, that is to say any Catholic who takes his faith seriously..”
Then, this is what we have to look forward to if Biden and his band of immoral power-hungry politicians are elected.
Now, I firmly believe that God knows what He is doing, and I do not. As a Celt in Fifth Century Britain would not know that even after the Romans left and the barbarians came to pillage, there would be some 14 or 15 centuries later a “Land of Hope and Glory.”
So I will pray that God’s will be done and even if there is suffering after November 3rd, it is part of God’s design and a consequence of his gift of Free Will to humanity.
Very good.
What great priests we are privileged to have as our Shepard’s. Priests and friends. True friends because the priests I’m friends with are Fathers first and foremost..yet close friends.
God bless them.
They know us to help us know ourselves. To be better instruments in carrying our precious Lord to our neighbors. To serving without reciprocity. To truly love one another
Struggling with loving my enemies..but I’m practicing. A practicing Catholic.

Great!
Don:
A Celt in the 4th century would not know the Romans had left – because they were still there!
They left about 410 AD.
Thanks for the nice comment PN and the correction TB. I didn’t bother to look it up or ask my wife (the historian) but did..408-409 AD…
Here’s another fine homily on the obligation of faithful Catholics to vote for those supporting Church positions on NON-Negotiable issues–abortion, sanctity of marriage, religious liberty. It’s given by Fr. Chris Ailar or the Marian Congregation of the Immaculate Conception at the Oct.19th Mass from the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. See here:

Fr. Ailar’s homily begins at about 9 minutes into the Mass.
