Saint of the Day Quote: Saint Jeanne Jugan
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 41 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Saint Jeanne Jugan founded the Little Sister of the Poor. They know about carrying the cross especially under the Obama regime.
The Little Sisters with collection baskets in hand used to be at the entrances to the Maryland horse racing tracks. I remember my dad being generous as were other spectators. About once a quarter when I was stationed in DC he used to invite me to lunch and an afternoon of racing at the track.
Sadly the Little Sisters are closing their assisted living home in Richmond VA. They’ve had a presence there since 1874. Not enough nuns to run the place so they are relocating to the order’s facilities in other states. The residents can go with them or be settled locally.
My husband has a soft spot for the Sisters, his favorite charity.
