In our household, we are inundated daily with the whinging of one of our shirt-tails, who is a schoolteacher in Duval County, Fl. Absolutely no mention of any concern for the welfare of his mother, his father’s widow, or his mother-in-law, all of whom live locally and are in the high risk categories (the oldest person in his house is 42 and none of them are immune compromised). His mother-in-law posts frequently (mostly curios and inspirational matter) and has hardly said a word on the subject.
I think what we’re learning in re this pandemic is that some populations are resistant for occult reasons and that within their various nominal categories tend to converge toward a common crude death rate w/o regard to what sort of public health measures were adopted. It appears that failures of sanitation in hospitals and nursing homes are disastrous and it appears that a population being completely blindsided is disastrous.
Now there is a huge push in the media to cancel all in person classes. They could have made this case along the lines of “if large amounts of children are travelling back and forth from school they could increase the spread and eventually infect the elderly and other at risk populations.” But no, it’s always “are our children safe?!!?!?”
In Minnesota there has been 1 death of someone age 19 or younger from COVID-19. The CDC doesn’t break down deaths by a 19 or less category, but those 14 years old or younger account for .03% of deaths from COVID-19 nationwide. (That’s 49 total deaths in that age group, across the entire country).
Children have a higher risk of being sexually molested by a teacher at school than they do of catching COVID-19 at school and dying from it.
Kind of apropos, and since I have some spleen to vent:
Local news just celebrated a brave special ed teacher who, to hear her tell it, is risking her life to teach your kids and mine, so you should be happy to make your kids wear masks. Now, we’ll leave aside for the moment that making some special needs kids wear masks is going to be harder than getting a St. Bernard to wear a fuzzy knit sweater.
Because, this isn’t about the kids, it’s about heroic teachers like her, risking their lives by being in the classroom, and wanting you to know that they’re risking their lives if masks aren’t made mandatory.
So there she is at the all-masks-all-the-time-protest, holding her own paper tombstone: “Ms. [Heroine], 1997-2020.”
Yep. She’s all of 23 years old, a proud specimen of our teacher-education establishment, loose in the wild with your children and mine.
Now, there are 2,167 confirmed cases of covid-19 in her age bracket. Thus far, 2, count ’em, two of those died, and I’m not sure either of them died in the county she teaches in.
Man. With courage in the face of odds like that, I know whom I’m nominating for teacher of the year!
Here is Ann Barnhardt on same subject, always to the point:
1.) Human Beings Are Not Poison 2.) CoronaCold is a SEASONAL COLD 3.) Masks Do NOTHING to block ANY Virus 4.) Masks are 100% a sign of CONSCIOUS SUBMISSION TO A PAGAN RELIGION/TYRANNICAL POLITICAL SYSTEM.

I don’t see any point in complaining about protective equipment. There’s a lot of uncertainty and conflicting studies so being cautious is good policy.
The trouble is, various parties have been witless about setting priorities as we learned more about how this virus works. That’s when they’re operating in good faith.
Politicians and public health officials endorsing and enabling buts-to-nuts public demonstrations in favor of nonsense causes when you cannot have more than 10 people at a funeral tells you they’re frauds.
Closing schools and outdoor venues like parks and beaches is just nonsense. Sweden never closed school for youths under the age of 15 and they’ve not done worse than most west European countries.
One thing that should be done when this is over is to purge the FDA and to break up the CDC into several pieces (each of which gets purged).
Why limit the purges and break ups to the CDC & the FDA? After all Dr Fraudci works for the NIH.
And then there’s that minor problem with the intelligence, law enforcement and foreign policy bureaucracies.
