Whiter Than White

PORTLAND, OR—John and Julie Newman are dedicated progressives, active in every cause and contributing regularly to Black Lives Matter. Despite this, their children, Cayden and Evergreen, have turned out wrong. “They’re just so white,” explained Julie, not hiding her disappointment. “I don’t know what we did wrong.”

John and Julie are trying to make a better world, and part of that is battling white supremacy and whiteness in general. Their kids, though, just seem to be furthering that problem. “When I think of their future,” John said, “I see them excelling in exciting careers — which is horrible, because they’re white and need to leave those opportunities for others.”

“Do they understand that they’re part of the problem?” Julie asked. “No. They don’t care. They just want to play with their Tonka trucks. That’s white privilege right there.”

Go here to read the rest.  Back in the seventies the Army used to have, I kid you not, what were called rap sessions, where units would gather together so that members could air grievances.  I suppose the concern was to ease white and black tensions.  There was some of that, but usually whites and blacks got along fairly well.  I recall a black PFC at one of the sessions who got up and said.  “I don’t hate honkeys,” and then he went down a long list of minority groups, using blunt terms for each, and proclaiming he didn’t hate any of them.  He ended with this observation:  “But I sure do hate officers!”  That received a round of applause from the enlisted and non-coms, rather less from the officers.  Last rap session held by that unit.  I rather agreed in part with the Private.  I certainly hated the officers who had dreamed up the fadish foolishness of the “rap” sessions, and his mockery of the process exposed that idiocy.

Are we reaching peak woke foolishness among upper class urban whites?  I think so.  Duluth, Minnesota is a town that is ninety-percent white.  The black population is a whole 2.3%.   American Indians are 1.80% Here is what the woke in Duluth are doing:

“It really grounds us in our work, and it can better reflect the work we do now, in terms of more modern language,” Larson said, explaining some of the thinking behind a proposed charter modification that will go to the Duluth City Council on Monday. The council will be asked to approve changing the current title of chief administrative officer to city administrator, and Larson expressed her hopes Wednesday that councilors will unanimously support the new title.

Although it doesn’t require a change to the city charter, Larson said Wayne Parson, the city’s chief financial officer, also will receive a new title: finance director.

Larson said she’s still not sure about exactly how or whether to change the titles of the city’s police and fire chiefs.

“When you get to public safety, that language is very built into the framework of associations and peer-to-peer efforts and connections,” she explained.

But Larson said Duluth Police Chief Mike Tusken and Fire Chief Shawn Krizaj are not opposed to the idea of title changes.
