One of the earliest followers of Saint Francis of Assisi, who referred to him, with Francis’ puckish sense of humor, as his Knight of the Round Table, numerous sayings have been attributed to Saint Giles. This is one of my favorite:
Man fashioneth God as he desireth; but He is always such as He is.
